Going to police about coercive control

Just that really. Left emotionally abusive relationship, safely in a refuge. Considering going to the police now about the coercive control, but not sure if it is worth it. For myself or my children. Solicitor and women's aid seem to advise it, but as always it's up to me. Has anyone done it? What happened? Was there a prosecution? How did it change life subsequently? Did the abuser get worse?

Why wouldn’t it be worth it? Unless you take action, he will get away with it.

What a brave step. Glad to hear you are safe.

A friend of mine reported her DH for coercive control a couple of years ago, and the police arrested him the same day.

Whilst there wasn’t a prosecution in the end, my friend’s DH had the humiliation of his neighbours seeing his arrest, spent a night at her majesty’s pleasure and a non molestation order flew through the courts. He got the message.

She’s not seen him since, and is rebuilding life for herself and her children after years of terrible abuse. So in the grand scheme of things: very scary at the time but yes, worth it.

Good luck.

Especially considering you have kids, it's worth it to get these things on record. Even if it doesn't go anywhere, it might help you if there are custody battles ahead.

Is there another evidence for something to come of it?
