???????????length of time.

My parents are just trying to sort out the last bits of money - namely the life insurance - from my Granddad's estate - but they've just realised that the total value of the estate will mean that it'll almost certainly need to go to Probate........that can takes months can't it??

That means that H and I have to continue living under the same roof for even longer - and I'm not sure how much longer either of us can tolerate it .

Get the "Which?" guide to wills and probate and DO IT YOURSELF not only will this be quicker than a solicitor it will also be a fraction of the price and you will minimise the time spent faffing about.

My aunt did the probate herself on both her parent's wills and she said it was so simple (she is 70!!!!) that she realises solicitors just rip you off

Do your parents live near you? Could you temporarily go and live with them? Or dh perhaps?

FAQ · 04/03/2008 17:10

it's my parents (as executors of the will) that'll have to do the probate whatsit (or so I'm led to believe) and I think they're going to do it themselves....but it's still going to take ages which means that we'll still be living under the same roof until it's sorted.

No they're up in yorkshire in a tiny 2 bedroom bungalow - the 2nd bedroom is my dad's office (he runs his own photo restoration business). Also the DS's would be too much for my mum to cope with

So no option of us (or H - as it's too far from work) going there.

I think you should move to Edinburgh really.

FAQ · 04/03/2008 17:14

lol Fimbo - I couldn't even do that without the money (and stop putting ideas in my head - I've only just started to get my head around being a single mum here)

But as you know the Scots are the friendliest bunch in the world and you have made friends. Tell your db to move out, because you are moving in.

FAQ · 04/03/2008 17:28

I know, I know, I know - but I'm not sure DB would be too impressed.
