What do you love about your DH?

I see so many posts on here where women are rightfully or wrongfully bashing someone's DH. It got me thinking to myself, wow, is anyone in a happy relationship anymore?

I absolutely love DH and want to know what you love about yours!

I'll go first ...

When I'm with DH I feel like nothing can harm me. No amount of stress, actions or words can make me feel vulnerable. He is always there for me and makes my life so much easier. He's the most calm, caring and compassionate human and I love him for it.

Tell me what you love about your DH!

That’s so lovely.
My dh is wonderful in every way. I love the way he can mend things and sort out problems. As you say, op, I feel safe and secure with him and that’s a lovely feeling.

He’s honest (to a fault sometimes), practical and pragmatic. He is keenly intelligent without any pomposity. I love his sense of humour and eclectic taste in music. He’s considerate in bed and round the house. He’s physically fit and expressive. He’s financially careful but generous and often buys gifts just because. He’s a great cook. He dresses well. Conversation is good - if I ask how a meet up has gone or about his day at work, I get a satisfying level of detail.

I’m really not sure how I bagged him. 30 years and still fancy the pants off his peachy arse.

AnkleWidget · 27/07/2023 08:18

He’s the only person I know whose brain compliments mine, we have the same goals but bring totally different skills to the table. Also he is extremely handsome and aging well 😁

Faz469 · 27/07/2023 08:19

Not my DH but my fiance. He's my rock. He's always there when I need him. He's a fabulous father to our baby boy and my stepson. He's calm in everything he does. Nowhere makes me feel safer than being in his arms. He also has an uncanny ability to make me howl with laughter at the most inappropriate moments 🤣

I'm so lucky to have met him. I don't mind that it took me 35 years. I wouldn't be with anyone else. My life before him was just my journey to meeting him.

He makes me laugh every day. He is my opposite and a grounding anchor to my anxious side. He's my best friend. He works hard, and not just for himself, but for us and our life. He's there for me in good times and bad. He always knows the right thing to say. He loves me for me.

BarrelOfOtters · 27/07/2023 08:23

That he’s just said completely deadpan….just saying ‘vegas, baby’ doesn’t excuse any and every ridiculousness. And we both found it really funny.

He's currently conducting a conversation with the cat about how he's busy making my packed lunch but, not to worry, he'll feed him in a minute. The cat is replying.

Mine is a former county swimmer, so he has shoulders out to there (points into the distance).

He’s a high quality man. I know this because:

Animals absolutely love him. He’s like catnip to them.
He helps when he doesn’t have to (he’s repainting my mum’s hall and landing for her because he can)
He is just thrilled to be with me. He thinks I’m great and I’m his priority
He fully pulls his weight and does it without being asked
He’s rock solid. I’d trust him with my life and the lives of my kids
Hes affectionate - holds my hand in public, introduces me to colleagues if we meet them on the streets. He’s proud of me, even though I’m well into my 50s and no supermodel.

My kids love him and he loves them. Doesn’t try to be their dad but is a great role model - helps them buy cars, takes them for driving lessons, university open days, and various clubs, activities, etc.

Yup, I definitely hit the jackpot with this one 😁

For always being there. Making me a much more confident person, encouraged me to learn to drive, get better jobs, my self esteem was very low when we met at 17. He brings me tea and toast in bed in the morning. Cooks all our meals. Is a wonderful Dad to our DS’. Always compliments me. Was my absolute rock, when I was going through my MS diagnosis, some years ago. He makes me laugh every day. Couldn’t imagine my life without him.

He broke the mold with his toxic family and works so, SO hard despite them telling him he was 'stupid' for working for a living. He leaves for work at 6:30 every morning and takes over with the kids when he gets home every single night and tells me to take some time. He did basically all the night feeds while I was struggling with PND so I got some rest. He puts in so much effort for birthdays and Christmas. He loves my first DD and has never tried to be her dad, they just co-exist in our home peacefully and lovingly. He cleans the hamster and black bin out without me asking. Keeper.

I love a chatty cat 🐈😻

When I met DH we just instantly clicked. We spoke for hours and it felt like we had known each other forever. He made me laugh so much I was instantly attracted to him. Plus he smelled absolutely amazing. Grin He walked me home that night and I fell over and hurt myself. He picked me up and patched me up and I knew straight away I'd found a good one. I'm so accident-prone that he's had to pick me up a good few times since then too.

We've now been together almost 10 years and married for over 5 of those. He still makes me laugh and we talk about loads of things still.

He's an amazing step-dad to my two kids, we've had some issues with DC2 (15) in recent years and it was DH who really helped push things with the GP to get DC to be seen by CAMHS, where they're now on the waiting list for an ASD diagnosis but has also had an anxiety diagnosis, therapy and now medication, without us having to wait for ages for any of that.

I also have various health issues, mainly fibromyalgia and a heart condition, and he understands when I struggle to do things and just gets stuck in himself and makes sure the kids help out while I get to rest (they're teens now and both really good at just half-arsing things or "forgetting" they've been asked to do something). He'll also run after me for anything I need when I'm ill and has even swapped shifts at work or taken a lieu day if I need him around to help me.

I think the most important thing for me is that I haven't had to hide any part of myself or any likes or hobbies. Any other relationship I've been in I always had to do that in some way or face being ridiculed. DH supports me with everything I want to do (and vice versa of course) and if either of us do have reservations about something we talk it over.

Communication has been a huge thing for us since day one and I really think that's been what has kept us solid through everything we've been through in the past decade.

I've always had them like that. Don't want to think about what that says about me, that they've all learned to never bloody shut up. But this one's a right old gossip.

AndyPandyismyhero · 27/07/2023 10:07

He doesn't do ' showy romance', but he gets up early on a cold, snowy morning to clear the snow from my car and to warm it up for me before I go to work. He has been an amazing dad to our DC's and is a wonderful grandad to our dgc, taking on childcare duties when they were babies and their parents needed to work. He was a good, supportive son to his mother, even though she treated him badly. He has loved me for over 45 years and I can't imagine ever being without him.
He is not perfect, but he is perfect for me.

Imanalias · 27/07/2023 10:12

He's kind, level-headed, clever, funny, very caring, non-judgemental. He helps other people, he still does silly things to make me laugh. He's romantic, he'll always look after me if I feel unwell. He's a great dad. He's a great son to his parents. He's a great friend. He is just absolutely lovely. And handsome too!

HangingOver · 27/07/2023 10:15

He's my best friend in the world. He really really cares about me being happy and safe. So thoughtful. So handsome. So kind. I'm really lucky 😊
