Anyone been supported by a Donesyic Abuse advisor?

I appreciate this is a sensitive subject...

I've just started a new job as an IDVA (Independant Domestic Abuse Advisor) and I really want to offer the best support to my clients.

I wandered if anyone here has (or is) being supported by one?

Did you have a good experience? If so, what made it good?

Or if you had a bad experience, what would you have wanted your IDVA to do differently?

Thanks

I've been supported by one in the past. I'll never forget her, she was the calm voice on the end of the phone any time I was having a panic attack, she dealt with a lot of practicalities and just made me feel slightly better. She listened when I cried and she took everything in. There's nothing worse than feeling as though you have to explain and explain over and over again.

She left suddenly and I never got to say goodbye to her, which stung a bit as someone who already struggles with abandonment issues

Good luck in your new job

I have! Now I want to do the same. I felt like my idva just didn’t judge. We could have a conversation and she just had my back. We did the freedom program 1:1. Honestly she changed my life. I liked that she was just so causal, quite potty mouthed and funny. She just made me feel relaxed. Miss her to be honest.
