Nesting - would you do it?

Separating from DH - we are looking at nesting for a while while we sort out finances etc - maybe six months to a year. Idea is to rent a small flat that we would swap in and out of together with main family home (with teen DC).

Has anyone done this or would consider it? DH is tidy and we are amicable. Would possibly regard as a ‘trial separation’, as it is less final that immediately getting separate living spaces.

No I couldn’t imagine that really considering my and DHs personalities. But it could well be great for you and your ex, I can’t judge!

Hi, I am just about to embark on nesting. Its definitely the best option for us while the kids are little. We do get along though, and I expect we both will bite our tongues a bit about stuff. I suspect it will work well until someone meets someone else.

I couldn't. Tried it for a couple of weeks and it didn't work.for us

This is a tricky one as it may be something which you have to do for now to help kids/money/ just on a trial like you suggested but you may find, after a while you want your space and time for yourself if you want to start having a life/dating others/going out and not thinking do I need to check in where I am all the time. I have seen many try this only to feel stifled per say! and stuck....so you could try it and you may feel this is what happens after a while as emotions/lifestyle will come into this too!!

Yes, maybe in your position.

Not long term

Obviously don’t know your financial situation but it can have an impact on benefits - you might want to check that out if it applies to you.
