TA parent working in Son’s school

I’m in a primary school and a few members of staff (older ones who have been there for many years) have taken a real dislike towards me.. apparently one of the teachers said I had done this and that before I started, basically put me on a huge pedestal (no idea why) and I hadn’t realised.. it didn’t go down well at all.. I had been a SAHM as husband has a good job etc., they know this too..
its not the best environment to be in but I’m managing…

problem is we don’t have many school options and am thinking of sending my son there..

should I? Surely the staff have to be professional.. I’m just worried they may treat my son differently.. my gut isn’t sure?!

You work there? I’d avoid myself but then I don’t know how bad the other options are!

Thefirstime · 10/07/2023 07:23

We only have one other option! Going to see it! It’s private which we was never going to consider

I don't understand your post at all, sorry.

TrueScrumptious · 10/07/2023 07:29

What? I don’t understand your post. Why would teachers put you on a pedestal? Why would that (what?) not go down well? What do you mean, they said you did “this and that”?

LIZS · 10/07/2023 07:30

You need to explain a bit more. Ime a parent working as a TA or teacher is not uncommon in the private sector(discounted fees, same holidays etc), perhaps less so in state.

Avidreader12 · 10/07/2023 07:31

I wasn’t a TA but I took a job at my sons secondary school interview it said wasn’t a problem but wow I’ve never worked in a more back biting unprofessional environment. I quit after 4 months my son is still there but my view of that school has changed for the worse. I have a much better job now. I think it is hard to work at the same school as your child. Personally I would look for a new job.

Raininginmidjuly · 10/07/2023 07:33

I think the OP started work as a TA at this school and that a teacher or some teachers put her on a pedestal before she started which got other staffs backs up.

It may not have been clearly communicated but it does happen in schools sometimes. It happened to me once: unbeknown to me before I started everyone was told of this wonder teacher about to start and when it emerged I was not the messiah but all
too human there was a lot of smug bitching. I only found this out much later!

Private is £££ obviously … however it can be quality if you can afford it. It’s hard,
I doubt that there would be any comeback for your child if you were there. Working in the same school as your child can be tricky though.

>apparently one of the teachers said I had done this

You forgot to say what it was you allegedly did.

WTFAreYouForReal · 10/07/2023 07:39

Yes, more details needed, op.

The full quote was “apparently one of the teachers said I had done this and that before I started, basically put me on a huge pedestal”

So Mrs Jones has said to the TA Miss Smith something like ‘we have a BRILLIANT TA startling in September! She has been to Oxford, you know! And outer space! And …’

Then the TA starts and is a normal human and the muttering starts.

HurricanesHardlyEverHappen · 10/07/2023 07:42

Can you get a job at another school and send him there. One where you haven't been on a massive pedestal?

It doesn't sound like you are happy where you are if you are 'managing' and there is a TA shortage.

But no. I wouldn't send my child to a school I had a difficult relationship with.

Meadowfly · 10/07/2023 07:45

How do you know they dislike you?
Do you think it is a good school?
Are the kids happy and well taught?
Do you get on with any of the staff?
Are you good at your job?
All need to be taken into account!

MarigoldGlove · 10/07/2023 07:47

No. I would not commit to a school that I myself was not happy working in. Three or seven years is a long time.

Willmafrockfit · 10/07/2023 07:48

well you ahve seen a side of the school that parents dont normally see.
sees rather extreme to send your son to private school though

OldChinaJug · 10/07/2023 07:50

We form opinions of all the parents - good and bad. It's never affected how I treat a child. Who is a completely different person.

yipeeyiyay · 10/07/2023 08:00

I despair of oats like this that make no sense. Who said you did what? Why would someone pedestal you? What makes you think they do? What makes you think people don't like you? Frankly your complete lack of correct grammar would be more concerning to me. 'We was'?

So you're working at the school in what capacity?
What is the problem with the rest of the staff?
How do the staff relate to the pupils normally?

ScoobyG · 10/07/2023 10:05

You're a TA and don't know that it is, we were. I'd be saying things if I was a teacher there, and I had been told thst there was a competent TA starting.
