Husband gobbling, driving me nuts

We are in a double bed, in a hotel. At home we have separate rooms. He has found the remains of the sandwich we bought for lunch and he is gobbling it, right next to me, and driving me insane. I can't stand the sound of anyone eating next to me. If he does it at home I put headphones on but I didn't pack any today.
Not asking for advice, just needed to rant.

I worked with a woman from Keynsham who said she hated her boyfriend 'chamming'. I asked what that was. She said it was chewing food with your mouth open. Was it the sight or the sound that bothered her, I asked. "Both", she said.

Op, you should know that any 'lighthearted' thread gets torn to shreds on here. 😂🤨 Got to love Mumsnet. Has no one ever been irritated by the sound of someone eating loudly? Are people really that confused and perplexed by that??

Those noisy cats when they get a saucer of milk! Worse, a dog at a bowl of water!

caffelattetogo · 20/06/2023 09:27

You sound like an irritable prick.

MyPenIsHuge · 20/06/2023 09:29

Oh eating noises make me feel sick. Eating in bed is awful too. Crumbs 🤪

IamSmarticus · 20/06/2023 09:30

If he only has the remains of a sandwich then how long is it likely to take him, 2 mins tops? YABU.

ThursdayFreedom · 20/06/2023 09:43

@Craftsandgardens

Eating. He's eating!

There's no need to be ott & say gobbling.

A part of a sandwich takes no time to eat, you're being properly OTT.

butwhyyyyyy · 20/06/2023 09:49

It must be very hard being married to you and even harder being you. It's a normal thing to eat so it must be very painful for you daily. Do you never go for meals out? Public transport must also be difficult for you.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/06/2023 09:51

Just fancy a sandwich now….

Just don't gobble it, whatever you do! Eat it daintily, with your little finger crooked. Don't want to upset anyone.

octoegg · 20/06/2023 09:57

Use of the word 'gobbling' makes me assume he's making those "haaaggm-naam-naaggmmm" noises you make when a toddler gives you plastic food to eat.

Hoppinggreen · 20/06/2023 10:00

Eating in bed is pretty gross

Nah, long leisurely tea and toast in bed on a rare Sunday morning is great!

LaBefana · 20/06/2023 10:03

On Sundays, husband and I have some coffee in bed, and then a roll! (I'll get my coat).

Ham or cheese?

Oh, you didn’t mean that type of roll . …. 😂

Eating in bed is great !!! Feels slothful and utterly delicious.

inappropriateraspberry · 20/06/2023 10:06

He's gobbling it? Must be a turkey sandwich!

CurlewKate · 20/06/2023 10:06

Is he actually "gobbling"-in which case say "ffs, slow down and shut up!" or just eating-in which case get over yourself.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/06/2023 10:07

Gobbling was our word at school for a bj.

Maybe he’s finishing a sausage sandwich?

LaBefana · 20/06/2023 10:14

Yes, see my joke earlier!

Presuming here you are able bodied and can move yourself away from the bed- do that.

He should be the one moving. Eating in bed is rude! Eating while not offering some to a nearby person is rude!

getafringenotbotox · 20/06/2023 10:22

I feel sorry for you op. I have mispohonia and my husband eating drives me mental. It gives me rage instantly. It's not his fault it is all me but it's difficult to live with sometimes.

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 20/06/2023 10:32

Eating a sandwich in bed? Yuck

Backstreets · 20/06/2023 10:51

Is he going nom nom nom

Fraaahnces · 20/06/2023 10:51

If you shove him hard enough he might fall out of the bed AND choke on the sandwich.

Doggydarling · 20/06/2023 10:58

Ignore the nasty comments OP, insinuating you don't like your dh etc because you sleep in separate rooms or dislike the sound of him eating. I love my dh, sleep in separate rooms because it works well for us and when we are away and sharing a room it takes getting used to. I detest noisy eaters, dh had dental work which was carried out over a few months and I struggled with his noisy eating during that time, tbh even his breathing can be irritating at times. Doesn't mean I don't like him or love him, it means I don't like those particular sounds, pretty simple really.
