How did you meet your DP (not OLD)?

Would love some advice…

After having another disappointing OLD experience, I’d like to go back to meeting guys in real life as that’s how I’ve always met previous partners. My life is not as exciting as when I was younger so not having as many opportunities to meet anyone!

My hobbies and work are mainly with females so not much chance there and I’m also not a big bar goer.

Please give me hope with your lovely stories of how you met your partner naturally. Thank you 🙏

(I’m a single parent to a teenager and 38)

Wedding 😂

Newbeginnings90 · 07/06/2023 23:25

Friend set us up.

DramaAlpaca · 07/06/2023 23:26

He was a colleague and friend of my then boyfriend Blush

It didn't take me long to realise I liked colleague/friend much more than the boyfriend. We've now been married for 33 years.

I've got a strange one. I was driving back from Bridlington, all the way to the Midlands. I saw a bright turquoise car in my rear mirror as I set off. I stopped in a service station after about 60 miles to get a coffee spoke to man in behind me in the queue, then drove on again. The turquoise car still following me so must have stopped in the same services as me. I drove on another eighty miles then pulled into services just Before my home as they have a M&S and I bought some milk. Same man in the M&S, also buying milk. We both laughed as we recognised each other. Got a coffee and back in car. Amazingly who was behind me again was the turquoise car. I went home and forgot about it. The following week I went to my gym and I was lying in the jacuzzi, and in walked the person from the service station I spoke to. We chatted and he owned the turquoise car. I married him.

Not wanting to derail the thread, but it’s the concept of meeting a DP in Waitrose that interests me.
As a male, in the era of MeToo, how is it done without being reported for being a creep?
Do I scrutinise trolly contents looking for women clearly shopping for one plus her cat? What if I don’t like cats?
Do eyes lock over the sourdough bread or puy lentils (shows I’m good in the kitchen)? or in the laundry aisle (shows I’m a competent man who doesn’t need a woman to do my laundry)?
I have a hierarchy of supermarkets -most of my money goes to Lidl or Aldi, and if I can’t get what I want there I go to Tesco. Waitrose I only use for their good range of herbs and spices, and the sauvignon blancs recommended in newspaper wine columns. Perhaps I should try M&S, who do have a good range of meals for one and lurking there for women might be a successful approach.

My friends sister gave us a lift to the pub, and I have now been married to said sister for 27 years.

LubaLuca · 08/06/2023 07:19

In a nightclub. I wrote my phone number (landline) in lipstick on his arm, he called me the next evening.

bobby81 · 08/06/2023 07:24

Through mutual friends.

@HouseatPoohCorner print your post out & wear it on a t-shirt. I'd date you for that post alone :)

Aah @HouseatPoohCorner I'm married but if I weren't I'd marry you for your writing style, self-awareness and sense of humour.

I met my husband when I was mid thirties OP, he was a friend of a friend who came to a group event but we weren't set up.

To answer your question @HouseatPoohCorner I do always wonder how these "meet cute" things move to the next stage. When I was in my twenties I lived in a block of flats and one morning I managed to throw my keys in the big communal skip along with my rubbish bag. I was too short to reach in and get them and had to flag down a passing tall man to help me, always felt that would have been a great "how we met" story for the grand kids. But of course he just helped me, smiled and went in his way

TBH I'd find a man chatting me up in Tesco quite creepy.

SallyWD · 08/06/2023 07:37

He was a friend of a friend

FatLarrysBanned · 08/06/2023 07:40

Came to plaster my bedroom. I was 44, in the middle of a divorce and very jaded with OLD. Safe to say my whole house has now been replastered but I only paid for the bedroom 🤭 He's a keeper.

crossstitchingnana · 08/06/2023 07:44

At polytechnic (shows my age) when there was no internet.

Lonely hearts ads were the only option then.

UnwantedOpinionBelow · 08/06/2023 07:46

Met in a club when I was visiting a friend in a different city. Funnily enough he was also moving to my city the week later.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 08/06/2023 07:48

Met on the first night of a club 18-30's holiday.... been together 15 years now and married for almost 6

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 08/06/2023 07:52

In the sauna at the gym 😂. That was 17 years ago and we’ve been married 14.

OrangeySmorangy · 08/06/2023 09:39

In the gym. It look him several years to make his move but very glad he finally did
