I’ve been married for nearly 28 years and have two kids both flown the next. Over these years hubby has always had something to sort out health wise, be it bad back (had months off work) followed by an operation to sort it out, shoulder injury so couldn’t work for a short period of time, problems with his ankle, again unable to work resulting in him being around the house, and now he needs a new knee. He’s no sports player but due to his previous job it’s probably wear and tear.
The issue I’ve got is that I love going out walking and it’s something he can’t really do for more than a half hour. I enjoy scenery but again, it’s not his thing. I feel we’d just stay in all the time if it wasn’t for me pushing a bit to go out.
He seems to get sorted before something else comes into play. I worry this will go on for years, constantly going for hospital appointments then back to staying in…
Not sure where I’m going with this but feel a bit held back by it all…

Walk alone? Why do you need to be with him to walk? Sorry if I’m missing something here. Buy a map showing your local routes, some sturdy shoes, a water bottle and get going.

This. Get him to drive round to the pub at the end to meet you for lunch.

Join a walking or rambling group, it’s pretty unfair of you to expect him to go walking if he needs a knee.

I'm afraid, I'm another one who canr understand why you either don't do these things on your own or find someone else to do them with.

Just because you're married it doesn't mean you're going to enjoy the same things or want to do everything together.

I echo the above.... walking alone is a joy.

You would be doing what you enjoy, which will in turn make you more resilient to deal with life's demands. It's healthy to spend some time apart - you'll have more to talk about when back home.

Another one not understanding why you need to do something together when he’s not physically capable of it. Even if you don’t want to walk solo or don’t have other friends who like to walk/hike, there are numerous clubs pretty much everywhere, which are welcoming.
