Cancelling last minute - is it rude?

I had invited one of ds friends from pre-school and her mum round today and she called yesterday to cancel (left a message). She didn't give a reason and I am not sure whether to invite them again or leave it? My ds likes this kid alot but I don't know the mum although she has always been very friendly. I feel a bit awkward about it. What would you do?

I'd give her another chance

jingleballs · 08/12/2004 17:00

me to, one last try, then leave the ball in her court to chat to you first.

KateandtheElves · 08/12/2004 17:00

Definitely give her another chance.

With pre-schoolers things come up, and she might not necessarily have wanted to give her reasons.

If it were to happen again I would be more dubious.

I would definitely give her another chance. We are all so busy - especially as it is Christmas so I wouldn't take it personally if I were you. I just had to cancel on another mum last week and felt awful about it but I had so much on there was no choice.

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 08/12/2004 18:43

that's not last minute .. that's the day before .. I don't think its rude particularly .. think rude would be not turning up

yes of course you should invite her again .. its ds's friend, not yours .. your doing it for DS after all

Gobbledigoose · 08/12/2004 19:02

Think this is fine personally. Perhaps she didn't want to leave her reason on the answerphone and would rather talk to you in person.

Wait and see what she says next time you see her.

I end up cancelling things all the time, simply because I've 3 kids so something can often crop up with one of them, or because I work from home, I need to a meeting at the last minute. It's probably nothing personal.

throckenrobin · 08/12/2004 19:38

try ringing her and see if you can rearrange - give her the benefit of the doubt this time. Maybe even say you hope it was nothing bad that made her cancel.

tillykins · 08/12/2004 20:03

I agree newgirl, its probably nothing personal - if she was upset with you or with your little boy, then she probably wouldn't have accepted the invitation at all, or accepted and not turned up.

when you see her, perhaps you could just say something like "Sorry you couldn't make it on Thursday, how about next week or shall we make it after Christmas?" and see what her response is like
I'm sure its not you!

thanks very much everyone - when I see her again I shall be cheerful and say what tillykins suggests - it is for ds benefit after all. thank you!
