Dumped by friend

I've had a male friend for the last 2 years. We were really close (or so I thought!), would message everyday, talk on the phone, face time etc. Until yesterday. I woke up to a message from a strange number, it was him messaging saying he has a girlfriend now so doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. He has blocked me on everything, I'm stunned. We spoke on the phone yesterday, I reread all the messages I've sent him to see if I'd accidentally said something to upset him but nothing. I've been a really good friend to him, helped him with various things and tried to support him with his addictions. I just can't believe he's done this to me. It was definitely him who sent the message via the new girlfriend as he has a distinctive writing style. I'm so hurt, I just don't understand why he would do that?

I'm guessing the girlfriend has kicked off and given him an ultimatum.

TrafficBlocking · 17/04/2023 17:39

His gfriend instigated him sending it and blocking you

Zanatdy · 17/04/2023 17:39

That’s pathetic. I guess she’s laid down the law when he’s said he’s got a close female friend. Or he’s in love with you and needs to step away from the friendship

Justcallmebebes · 17/04/2023 17:40

Girlfriend's put her foot down is my guess. Hurtful tho, I'm sorry

100% this.
Don't allow him back in your life, he sounds like a user and a general twat.

Laughingnome1 · 17/04/2023 17:44

Maybe the new girlfriend got hold of his phone and he is totally unaware?

Beaverbridge · 17/04/2023 17:44

GF behind that.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/04/2023 17:48

He was forced to pick between you or his girlfriend. He chose his girlfriend. You're better off, trust me.

Skybluepinky · 17/04/2023 17:49

The joys of a jealous girlfriend.

strawberry2017 · 17/04/2023 17:50

As all others have said. It's the girlfriend whose forcing this.

Littlemisscol · 17/04/2023 17:50

Jealousy :( this is how DH and I lost our bestfriend. Jealous girlfriend turned into jealous wife and now he has no friends and all his family are NC.

It's awful!

MsCunk · 17/04/2023 17:51

You've given him loads of support over the years, but has he reciprocated? Or does he just see women as support humans to use and lose at a whim?

Xztop · 17/04/2023 17:57

There has been minimal support back from him which I have called him out on in the past.
I just feel pathetic after receiving that message via his girlfriend. I didn't respond. I suspect he's made me seem needy when in reality it was the other way around.
It was definitely him that sent the message.

You poor thing that's so hurtful. May he reap the rewards of being a lily livered twot.

Pseudonamed · 17/04/2023 18:39

Maybe he got an attack of conscience and realised he was investing more in you than in his relationship? Or possibly the gf sent the messages without him knowing? Are you SURE he sent the message?

BevMarsh · 17/04/2023 18:42

In a few weeks time when he texts/calls you and tells you it was his ex-girlfriends doing you call tell him to jog on.
He will definitely be in touch.

Xztop · 17/04/2023 18:47

I am 110% certain he sent it. He has a distinctive writing style and usenof punctuation.
I'm just in shock, I didn't even know he had a girlfriend, he's mentioned her a few times but made out she was just a friend.

Lost a close friend the exact same way. Don't give him any more headspace, he clearly wasn't as good a friend to you as you thought.

creaamontop · 17/04/2023 19:08

I don't think it's too unusual for this to happen. It's unfortunate but in my experience, in boy/girl friendships, one fancies the other to some degree. All my guy friends have eventually hit on me so I don't have them now.

I had issue with one of my exs friends as she clearly fancied him. I trusted him and didn't think for a minute she was a threat but couldn't stand how naive he was to it, she was taking the piss. She showed her true colours in the end and he ditched her. I now wish she stole him at the time and saved me years of grief! 😂

Not saying this applies to you, or that it's healthy, but i wouldn't take offense and just move on with your life
