Those moments of clarity

Isn’t it funny how sometimes it’s the tiniest things that give you that moment of clarity.

I have had issues with my husband for ages, and those issues are much more serious and go far beyond this specific inconsequential issue….

however, tonight we got home and I asked where my bedside lamp was - he said that he has given it to his dad who is visiting as he needs a lamp in his room. Not a problem at all - but he clearly went through a thought process - my dad needs a lamp - of course that means I’ll give him magicmonsters rather than the one on my own bedside table.

i really don’t care about the lamp - it’s not even an issue at all in itself, but it’s suddenly a metaphor for something much bigger..:

youre right OP - sometimes it’s the smallest things that are the most telling. hope you are doing ok and are working out the best way to respond to this - and everything else - for you x

Going through exactly the same thing myself a Mumsnet staple is when somebody shows you who they are … listen … I’m listening and things must change

Yes me too. On holiday and dp made such a fuss about not wanting to eat at the restaurant I've booked that I've just cancelled it.

He couldn't just suck it up for me. I always compromise for him. It's a bloody all inclusive so we could have still gone to his choice afterwards if there was nothing on the menu he fancied.

Petty but so indicative

God yes! I've just watched my 45yr old husband have a full on sulky tantrum in the supermarket because he's had such a shit day that he can't possibly decide what he wants for dinner. Never mind that we've bent over backwards trying to do things we know he likes all day. Fuck off then, go and be miserable somewhere else!

I’m sorry there’s so many of us living with selfish sulky husbands. Thanks for your kindness and I hope you’re all doing ok today.
