Is this weird

I am a mum of 2. My eldest goes to pre school and has become friends with a little boy, the dad is a single dad and hasn't really spoken to many other parents. Our kids play together every day and my daughters talk about the little boy daily.

The dad asked if over Easter we wanted to meet for a play date. I said yes of course but when I told my husband he got mad and said that it was 'weird' that he chose me and that I want to go and meet this man. I explained its for the kids and its good for them and he agrees but states he doesn't know the man and doesn't want him near the kids or me. I agree to a point but he then insinuated that the man is interested in me (they've never spoken so it's just speculation) and I disagree completely. I think, like me, he is looking for friends for his son and just trying to be a good dad.

Is it strange for me to meet him with the kids?

No it is not strange! My DH has his parttime-day on a wednesday and this is the part-time day of a lot of mothers from school as well. (As wednesday is only half a schoolday out here) He is often out on playdates and chatting with the other mothers. I often hear all the new rumours through him.

What does your DH think this man is going to do to your DC?

This says far more about your DH than it does about anyone else. Is he this positive in other aspects?

If the circumstances were the same but this man was a woman instead, would you think it was a weird thing to do. Probably not.

Not at all weird to meet him with your kids. Fathers are parents, too! Why shouldn’t his DCs socialise? It’s great that he’s reaching out. I had ‘dad’ friends as well as ‘mum’ friends when DCs (now mid/late teens) were little and my DH was that ‘dad’ friend especially when he was working part-time and I was full-time.

And I agree with @PizzaPastaWine - this attitude says a lot about your DH.

I did bring this point up and he said its different. I am very much of the idea that mum or dad its the kids its all for. I know my children will have a great time, I just am uncertain at what cost in my relationship it will be at. I don't think it should be any but I don't see that happening unfortunately

Your child mentions this little boy daily and is his friend. Therefore, not weird for them to have a playdate. Sex of person doing the childcare is irrelevant.

Is your dh often like this about men in your life? Male colleagues, old mates, neighbours, family friends?

Or is it the first time this has happened?

Good lord what are sahds supposed to do? Stay at home forever?
There isn’t a valid reason for not meeting up with him, your oh is being unreasonable.
