Proposal ideas-help

I want to propose to my DP and can't decide how to do it. Do I stick with tradition and wait until leap year next Feb? Or just go with a random date or do it on his birthday in June?
I like the idea of putting the four kids in t shirts that spell out will you marry me so they can be part of it too but what if he didn't want to say yes 🤣(I'm pretty sure he would by the way)
Or do I do it more privately with just me and him? Or make a grand gesture like on a hot air balloon on holiday, so many options, what do you think?

I would do it privately. Could you pick one of your favourire places to go together, not neccessarily anywhere extravagant just somewhere that means a lot to you and your relationship.

I wouldn't propose as such. Certainly not in public.

Are your four DC shared? If you have been together so some time, I think it would matter why you are not already married.

I'd find a good private moment to raise the fact that you think it's time to get married, more in the spirit of 'let's get married' rather than 'will you ?'

I'd probably assume that he agreed and start to discuss how to get married. Big party, elope, what role your DC will play. And when.

How keen do you think he will be? Why hasn't he already said 'let's get married'.

No those four children are his, I say children, one is 22. We've been together 5 years, he's made it clear he wants to get married, I always said I didn't but have changed my mind, hence why I want to be the one that asks as I think it would be a big surprise and also show him I mean it if that makes sense.
I guess I feel its a big deal, I've never been married so I want to make it special.

Ahh, that sounds lovely.

Our situations sound similar.

My now DH was keen to get married and I wasn't so much. When I changed my mind, I didn't plan anything but at midnight on New Year's Eve in our new home, we were having a toast (champagne, natch) onset the tree on the patio and I said let's get married.

Now he is delighted to tell anyone who asks that I begged him. Sigh.

Fortunately, not many people do ask 😀

Gosh, write all that and forgot the pertinent info

That moment was/is romantic and special because it's when we decided.

Hope you find the right way for you.

Eatentoomanyroses · 06/03/2023 10:54

I wouldn’t. I’d probably just drop into conversation that I’d changed my mind and actually think marriage would be great. See what he does.

Streaky1 · 06/03/2023 17:53

That sounds perfect, I guess it's going to be memorable which ever way I do it is probably more the point isn't it. Haha my DP would probably do that too!

I have already said that to him, so he knows but I just don't think he'd actually think I'd ask, although he did make a point of asking when leap year was, I just acted daft 🤣
