What can I do?

I have a new job, I love it. It took a while to find one to fit with family life, this one does. My partner was supportive whilst I was unemployed for a while, he was happy when I got this new job.
He hasn't been so fortunate, although his job is pretty good, fits with our family etc. He is working as a contractor and try as he might he can't get a full time permanent job which would give paid sick leave and other such benefits. He feels let down by people who have said they would try and help. I have tried to help with some of my work contacts and not been able to help either. So he is angry at everyone who hasn't been able to get him into a permanent role. Including me. He begrudges others and me being able to 'get a break' when he hasn't.
I'm not sure what to say or do for him. I listen when he is down and angry, but some of the things he says are actually quite personal and hurtful.
Has anyone been in this situation?

He shouldn’t be taking his frustration out on you or anyone else and there are benefits to being self employed or working contractually that you don’t have so he should appreciate that. He doesn’t sound supportive or proud of you like he should be

He is a grown man. Getting angry with everyone else because of his own employment situation is pathetic really.

You can only keep trying to encourage but point out you refuse to be his emotional punchbag.
