He has been a loud snorer for the last few years it’s gotten particularly bad these last 18 months.
it’s so loud I can hear it in the lounge when I inevitably go down there. I have tried earbuds, headphones.
I have had no sleep literally for two days/nights now I’m on the sofa and can still here him.
he’s finally gone to the GP to get tested for sleep apnea I'm not sure it’s that he’s 10 stone 4lb doesn’t smoke and limited alcohol.
I struggle with insomnia anyway but this snoring just killing me I even took a zopiclone at 10pm still no sleep
I’m not sure what he can even do.
we don’t have a spare room our DC are 18 and 13 and he even disturbs them some nights from our bed DD 13 has a white noise machine now to counter it.
we have been Married 23 years he’s a great husband and father and he will sleep on the sofa but still sane issue honestly I would rather try and sleep through a crying newborn

@Aprilx they did stop selling them for a while as the first version had charging issues. They then released a second version (which I purchased immediately!), and I can confirm that the charging is perfect and they are a tad more comfortable. Currently out of stock on the Bose website, but John Lewis & Amazon stocked them previously. Also occasionally for sale on eBay

MontageOfHeck · 13/01/2023 08:22

When I say they are more comfortable, I didn’t find them uncomfortable to start with, but I can tell these ones have been improved.

Although if you have more fat round your neck you are more likely to have sleep apnoea, you don't have to be fat to have it. My dh is thought to have had OSA from a child, and I know he snored horrifically when he was underweight. CPAP for him was a life changing treatment, and he's been on it for 16 years now. The latest unit is genuinely silent

Bagpuss2022 · 13/01/2023 19:05

Did get any sleep Thanks for all the advice will definitely be researching and purchasing some.
im off to bed now at 7pm as haven’t slept since Tuesday night and I’m totally broken

There are phone apps that will record snoring and score it. I know I snore but I had no idea how badly. I now know that I snore less with a wedge pillow (but it hurts my hips) and all the other things I tried made no difference. Snorelab was the app I used.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 13/01/2023 20:18

My Dp scores too. Thankfully we don't live together or else I think we would have broken up by now on the basis of his snoring. I wear ear plugs when he stays over which helps somewhat. My ex Dp had sleep apnea and his was so bad I vowed I'd never get in a relationship with a snorer again. The sound sets my teeth on edge, I absolutely cannot stand it.

thecatsatonthematagain · 13/01/2023 21:55

I feel your pain. Houchanges ear plugs are the best affordable product I've found so far. They have a triple noise prevention thing.

Good luck OP

And I've been up since 1.30. In fairness nothing to do with him, not a peep tonight.

This is of my own making!!

StinkyWizzleteets · 14/01/2023 03:54

I’m awake at almost 4 am and I can hear my partner downstairs. I worry about our neighbours being kept awake. My young son has also climbed in next to me and is grinding his teeth. Fml

OH was given a mouth guard by the hospital which worked for a while but not so much now. It’s worse if he drinks. He only wears the mouthguard if we share a bed because he finds it so uncomfortable (the mouth guard not sharing with me). I tried explaining it can retrain his muscles over time if he wears regularly but he chooses to sleep on a sofa bed downstairs rather than wear it all night. His snoring is not doing our relationship much good. He says he’ll go back to the doctor but never does because of course it doesn’t really bother him.

StarCourt · 14/01/2023 07:19

i broke off my engagement because of his snoring. We didnt live together but the weekends he stayed over I was exhausted for the first half of the week. I'd get up and sleep on the sofa and he'd wake up, wonder where I was and wake me up to come back to bed! I even recorded him and made him listen but he still wouldn't get help for it.
I couldn't stand it any longer.

Lzzyisgod · 14/01/2023 07:41

Ugh I live with a snorer - its bloody torture and I'm sure his is down to weight gain and drinking, neither of which he feels is an issue so things only get worse and not better.

I find going to sleep before him is the only solution. separate rooms works alittle but I can still hear him and I lie there getting more and more wound up.

As a last resort I use ear plugs but my inner ears are quite sensitive and get sore with constant use of them. I also find my dreams are much more vivid and real and sometimes scarier when I use ear plugs (possibly because of sensory deprivation??) so i know I'm at my wits end if I crack these out.

Its awful but inwardly I cheer when he has to spend a few nights away for work - once he was away for 2 weeks and I felt.like a new person because I just got some decent sleep for 15 nights straight.

grandmashotdoodlebugs · 14/01/2023 07:49

My lovely man snores. Super fit. Not overweight. Definitely sinus related. He's tried the mouth guards but they hurt his teeth. He wears nose strips but they don't help him. He's been to doc and has been waiting for a sleep clinic appointment for almost a year.

He found some good research which is to do daily mouth exercises to strengthen the muscles around the throat. No an instant fix but his efforts are so appreciated. He hates it when I run away to the spare bed in the middle of the night.

I tried to buy a CPAP but you can't without a prescription

Lzzyisgod · 14/01/2023 08:05

I work in ventilation and people do jokingly ask me if I can sneak them a machine out (they are joking and I never would!!)

But yes it needs to be prescribed (the type of ventilation and the pressures) and monitored (over ventilating can be just as bad as under ventilating) and a good mask choice/fit.
