Paranoid - logging out panic?! What is this?

So, if your partner quickly logged out of a YouTube account and signed in using a different account when you sat down next to him and wanted to join in watching videos (on the main TV)... would your spidey senses be pricked. Or, could someone offer an reasonable and less paranoid explanation.

I'm not even sure what I think it could be- not porn necessarily, maybe embarrassing or inappropriate videos, or something weirder? Subscriptions to things I would think odd?

Would you happily stream to the tv via your own personal YouTube account or might you also panic - for innocent reasons?

I always watch signed out as I don't like being algorithmed constantly. Just wondering if I'm being over paranoid - in the past (with different men) I've ignored little things like this that made me feel weird, and it's not turned out well... Confused

Yeah it’s a red flag, I’d be wanting to know what they were hiding

TheVolturi · 13/12/2022 21:18

It's a bit weird but could be harmless. You need to ask.

Hawkins001 · 13/12/2022 21:20

Usually it shows your recently viewed, although YouTube ? Seems very odd

Yes I felt it to be.

However, I am thinking that I'm not sure I'd want him to see my searches and views. Not because of any disloyalty or sleaze, more as some of it is private and maybe even a bit embarrassing?! Blush

Are you sure it was YouTube and not Youporn?

MoanySloney · 13/12/2022 21:22

So you do the same thing, then wonder why they do it?

They don't want algorithms
They have an account for their kids and different parental controls
They have different accounts for different interests (see algorithms)
They've watching reviews of what they bought you for Christmas
They're watching something about their very outing hobby that they are also very self conscious about and want to avoid ridicule

I also think you tube is quite good at blocking porn. So I wouldn't jump to that conclusion.

Raveon2000 · 13/12/2022 21:22

My guess is its something including women!! I couldn't let that go!!

Yes I am sure, I was in the room all the time - he was happily watching it and wasn't threatened at all by my being there. I had looked at it or watched it alongside him at times but couldn't see account details.

It was only when he asked if I wanted to sit down and watch something on there together in particular... I found it odd that he sort of panic closed it. Reopened it and seemed to log into a different account. Maybe he has a public account t and a more personal one. I'm just wondering what could be on the latter if this is something people do?

There is also incognito mode that effectively hides the algorithms

Well there's no kids or presents but I did wonder about different accounts for different things. I've never done this. Is it something a lot of people on YouTube would do? I'm not being silly, I use YouTube, but never via an account!!

Also it was more the slightly frantic nature - although I may be over suspicious - of the shut down that piqued my interest.

It can't be anything dodgy if you were in the room while he was watching it.
Did you ask him?

Yes I suppose that's my worry. Probably not porn but something I might find weird or inappropriate. Even if just celeb gazing, probably embarrassing.

For me I usually use YouTube as background watching although I've been minimising my usually music videos and instead, watching more travel videos,.e.g. Christmas in New York, central park in winter, new York subways etc

I don't think he was watching something dodgy that day. I think he didn't want to search using that account. So my feeling is he didn't want me to see the search history there.

Well if he was trying to hide something from you, why would he call you over to join him and then panic close whatever he had open?

Aren't youtube pretty strict on porn etc? Can't imagine it's anything sinister, possibly just embarrassing.

Im.guessing he forgot then thought oh pickles

Neverlander · 13/12/2022 21:38

I don't think he was watching anything dodgy. My gut tells me he was on the "wrong" account. Realised, panic switched and then all was well and we could watch in a relaxed manner.

Question is what is bad about the wrong account and searching from there. It could well be that he has different accounts - music, travel, etc. seems unlikely somehow. Not sure.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 13/12/2022 21:50

Well you're only going to find out by either asking him, or snooping into this other account. Which if he finds out about, he will feel totally pissed off about.

It cannot be porn as YouTube doesn't allow any nudity.

I'd guess a search history of things he might find embarrassing. Like "how to get rid of my fat stomach", "why am I so anxious all the time", "review of penis growth pills", "best pimple popping video 2022" (that last one is me 😂)

Raveon2000 · 13/12/2022 21:58

My guess is that it's 'girls in bikinis bouncing on a bouncy castle' or similar. (Or is this just based on my grim relationship experience 🤔)
The other stuff is a bit cringe yes, but would it constitute for the panic logging out?

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 13/12/2022 22:13

I would hate dw to see my YT history. It's niche videos relating to a hobby and work (vlogger type videos), and while nothing nefarious, its very geeky and embarrassing for me. I had an old youtube account set up before it all merged with google, so I use the old account for hobby/work stuff and my gmail one for standard stuff, which DW also uses very occasionally. She finds all the vlogger stuff quite silly, so its like my guilty pleasure 😊

Ah oh dear. Yes I hope not. But it's possible.

Sorry about that for you?!

It will definitely be because he doesn't want his search history popping up or recommended videos. It could be that's he watching gaming videos or something very innocent, just embarrassing to him OR he's watching hot women compilations😂 OR he's watching very anti women podcasts? Have a look if you can, I would.

I think these are all fair enough. Not sure he'd be watching anti women podcasts but who ever knows really. We dont live together. I will try to look if I can, not sure how but I will think on.

Does he have YouTube logged in on any other device? iPad etc
