What was this on carpet?

I think I found a tiny fragment of a nail extension on our bedroom carpet but not sure what they feel like. If anyone uses these, does it sound like this.
It was a tiny fragment, really shiny, midnight blue. At first I thought it was a broken piece of gem glass from costume jewellery or a broken piece from the cap of a perfume bottle (think, Versace noir). However, I pressed on it and it broke into smaller pieces, like very soft plaster. It actually looked like bits of modelling plaster which had been painted thinly.
I had been working away before finding this but I wasn't suspicious of him at all. But it's such an odd thing to find so now am wondering.

A picture would help?

shrinkingbee · 28/11/2022 15:09

If you want to post a picture I'm sure we'd be able to say. It could be, or could very possibly be something else.

I didn't take a picture before pressing on it with my thumb nail so now it's in tiny bits. Part of it broke almost into powder. It was a tiny fragment though so I doubt a picture would have helped.

Acrylics wouldn't break up like powder, they are like little bits of plastic.

I have acrylics and they are rock hard - even if a bit of one broke off (which would take some force) it wouldn't crumble when pressed

CookPassBabtridge · 28/11/2022 15:22

No acrylics don't crumble.

picklemewalnuts · 28/11/2022 15:23

My gelish type polish doesn't crumble, it's almost rubbery. Flexible.

AuntieDolly · 28/11/2022 15:29

Eye shadow?

Eye shadow?

I was going to say this too. I have dropped eyeshadow palettes on the floor and they break into little fragments which crumble.

Prettypennies · 28/11/2022 16:05

Has it broken off an ornament or something in the room that is the same colour? What shape was it before it broke?

notstoppinghere · 28/11/2022 16:07

Sounds like it's not nail extension then. It's not eye shadow either. It's like whatever it was had been covered in a thin layer of coloured varnish, which was why I thought it was nail polish. As it broke apart I could see the underlying stuff, which looks just like fragile plaster (like on old walls). There's nothing in our house I can think of that is that midnight blue shiney colour.

I also thought that it looked like a bit broken off an ornament. We don't really have ornaments and none at all in the bedroom. Nothing of that colour. Before it broke it was a sort of oval shape, not flat, slightly raised (again, why I thought it looked like part of a nail).

Definitely not a nail.

More likely something walked in from outside

TellMeWhere · 28/11/2022 16:13

If you have no suspicions, why was your first instinct that it must be a nail extension? Confused

Acrylics wouldn't be much use if they crumbled on contact. They have to be melted off with acetone.

ghostbusters · 28/11/2022 16:14

Could it be a sort of medication? A tablet that's been broken/crushed or cut into bits? They can be powdery with a thin, shiny colour coating.

Because it looked like that and it was shiney, like nail polish.
