Am I overeating?

My partner sent me a text today to a facebook memory of us laughing and joking and having a lovely day out. And he put " I wish I could make you look this happy these days "

Now how would you take this? I've took it that I must be walking round with a face like a slapped arse. But apparently he meant it was before covid and the world went to hell. But now I'm the bad guy because I thought he meant I'd been miserable and hes saying the more this keeps happening the more I wonder what sort of bloke you think I am.

It's always the same if I get upset about something it gets turned on me.

You do seem rather touchy OP. Why did you get upset? And what is any of this to do with overeating??

Tattybear12 · 22/11/2022 14:59

Just before this I told him my mum has caught covid and is feeling really poorly.
His response was ' bet your kids gave it her ' and 10 seconds later he sent the other message

Did you mean overreacting?

I would have taken it to mean he feels like he is not doing enough to make you feel like that or doesn't feel like he is able to anymore and feels bad about that.

BaddogGooddoggy · 22/11/2022 15:21

It sounds like he feels he can’t do right for doing wrong. I’m guessing you need a lot of emotional support from your partner?

Cas112 · 22/11/2022 21:03

If someone said to me I wish I could make you this happy these days, I would not instantly presume they are saying I walk around with a face like a slapped arse all the time. That sounds a little defensive

frozendaisy · 22/11/2022 21:54

Sounds like you are a bit defensive and that does get draining for the other person after a while.

But only you really know.

I mean didn't it cross you mind to say something like "I agree let's plan another day like that one once the chaos of Christmas is over"

Coffeetableposhbooks · 22/11/2022 22:01

Are you ok? It must be exhausting for you both to deal with this level of paranoia and sensitivity

Bookworm20 · 23/11/2022 16:27

I would take it mean he thought I was not happy now.

I would say to him, you know you said you wished you could make me as happy as that picture? A nice holiday to the carribbean might do it.

But in all seriousness, have you been a bit down lately? And I don't think him turning it on you is going to improve your happiness levels. Maybe have some time to sit and chat together and talk through why he might think you're not happy.

I did also think this thread was about overeating!

I wouldn’t have taken it that way. I don’t assume DH says things to get at me. Why do you feel that rather than giving the comment the benefit of the doubt and thinking about whether you’re being a bit glum generally?

It’s not objectively a criticism, if anything it sounds like he’s trying to take responsibility for your current state of mind? Which isn’t really his job tbh.

What’s really going on?
