How old are you? Could it be peri-menopause, that affects sleep. Im fine since starting HRT

I have been a terrible sleeper for a long time. This year was really bad and I was struggling to function. I tried all the usual sleep hygiene etc but then stumbled upon the sleepyhead programme. I didn’t sign up to it but read up on the basis behind it and tried it out.

it worked wonders, only problem is I struggle to stay awake in the evening now.

idea is that laying in bed awake weakens your sleep drive (your bodies need for sleep) so you need to get up. I started by getting up at 4.30 the first day (I did my ironing) I have to say that was not a great day as I felt awful. But I managed to sleep for a cple of hours that night. You need to change your thought process that a couple of hours of good sleep is better than a night of laying with your eyes shut. So for the next few nights I got up at 5 am. By the end of the week I was sleeping all the way through. First time in years and not waking until my alarm at 7

hope this might help

Yep me too. It was horrendous then HRT was the game changer

Feel like yeah I’ve tried to do that a bit but it hasn’t really helped
but I’ve not just got up and started my day at like 2am

What time do you go to bed? What do you do right before you go to bed? I dont have sleep issues but definitely seen it in my parents. They watch the news right before bed which i think is just the worst thing to do. I know from my sisters partner he stays up till gone midnight on his phone most nights and then struggles to sleep. Do you start your day early? I go as early as possible to bed. Work/Kids taken into consideration. Do you sleep during the day? Are you lying awake with thoughts going round and round in your head or is it more that you are just physcially wide awake? Sounds really wishy-washy i know but i downloaded a rain app and i love it. I usually have it set to fall asleep to and timeout then after 20 minutes or so. Not any great advice i realise but seems worth trying to figure out if its more a mental issue preventing you from sleeping or if for some reason your body has physically woken back up again when you are trying to sleep.

Get up and outdoors at dawn for 10 minutes. Even if it's just to sit in the garden, or stand under an umbrella, but ideally, go for a walk.

Mid 40s it’s probably menopause related. HRT solved this for me.
