I think I am in love with Charles Walker

All I know of him is this two minute video, but, By God, what a man. Just loved the way he expressed himself. Kept his voice calm and moderated, and used his words to powerfully convey his meaning and emotion. No angry voice, no raised voice, no aggressive body language, no foot stomping. Bet he never slammed the door on his way out. Just used words to strongly convey meaning (without swearing too).

I think I am in love. I want him to be my children's Father. What excellent modelling of how to handle and express your feelings when you are livid.

I'm genuinely going to use this video to show my boys what they (and I!) should be aiming for in how we convey our angry feelings.

And I agreed with what he said. Which helps.

I'm in love. He's my new crush.

Plenty of loons in the Labour party. As can be seen by the news this afternoon...

They are all talentless. And that's the country's problem. It's just which bunch of twats is (slightly) better than the other.

BravelyStunning · 21/10/2022 14:31

yes, @MrJi Johnson very compelling in that clip- also love how Osborne nodding enthusiastically and Ed Balls looks on board- you feel that, irrespective of political party, these are the grown-ups- these are people who can work together. John-Momentum-guy, not so much.

Amen to this

very aspirational 😂

I must admit that was a wee to myself 😬

Alan Johnson so good there.

I have a real issue with Tory=Bad

Completely agree with this.

I've not heard of him before this interview but their is definitely something attractive about the anger he shows, I think it's how passionate he is 😳

I rated him already after he rightly kicked off about an older woman being manhandled off a peaceful protest during lockdown, and fought against unnecessary dictatorial policies afterwards. Sensible and gutsy bloke, shame he's leaving.

would that have been Kelly-Jean? (might have got name wrong!)
Good for him whoever it was

Honestly can you imagine his face if he found out a niche selection of Mumsnetters think he's dishy when furious?

Minimalme · 21/10/2022 18:14

I used to work in a role which requires Charles Walker to say a few words and cut ribbon occasionally.

I can confirm he is a really decent guy.

I am a committed anti-Conservative but I found him hard to dislike!

Surely someone here must work in Parliament and can tell him?! That would be so funny.

I'm trying to think if I have ever fancied a politician, don't think I have.

PurpleParrotfish · 21/10/2022 18:58

I know there are Tories who are pleasant to be around and will push good causes that they believe in (and conversely there are left wingers who are arseholes).
But I’m afraid when it comes to the plight of Tory MPs, I’m with the PP who pointed out that they all voted in the 5 week gap without benefits at the beginning of unemployment. And the two child benefit cap etc etc.
Even if Charles Walker’s constituency is wealthy he must have had some idea that Tory policies over the years he’s been an MP have led to more people sleeping on the streets, people using food banks, the NHS in crisis. Some kind of smidgen of awareness of the world around him.
That said OP, we’ve all got to find joy where we can and if a bit of well-expressed rage at those in the Tory party with no principles at all floats your boat then go for it.

Yes, definitely the adults there. This is largely missing from politics at the moment, on all sides it seems.

WarblingEttie · 23/10/2022 09:13

I've just re-watched. He's getting angry about what the government have done to his Party, not the country. He's getting angry that his colleagues might lose their seats, not angry about the hardships his constituents are facing.

Not exactly Martin Luther King is he?
