Another meh OLD date

Bloke I've been chatting to for a couple of weeks. Had phone calls and video calls. All going swimmingly. Got to a pub for coffee after work. About 10 minutes in he totally changed, didn't even attempt to make conversation, kept looking away. I struggled through another 30 minutes before calling it. Messaged him when home to say thanks for the coffee, hope you didn't mind me calling it but it seemed you weren't interested to which he replied "yes there was no connection"
I'm not bothered about another date - just aghast at how little effort he put in to basic courtesy. You'd chat more to a colleague who you ended up having a coffee with. It was so rude. He knew fully what I looked like, we'd spoken on the phone for 2 x 35 mins so he knows how to keep a conversation going. He was just totally rude and dismissive in person. Anyway, just wanted to have a moan!

Sounds like a person who only wants to be polite to people he can poke. The problem is him.

If I were single I'd enjoy dating, meeting someone, getting to know them, seeing what interesting takes they had on life.

It wouldn't just be about getting a shag or a partner.

I'm like this, I like chatting and just generally being a friendly sort.

Men are more interested in how you look at first and how you get on second whereas for the women it is the other way round. Sorry but I don't think he fancied you IRL so that was the end of it.

Yeah totally get that and I didn't fancy him either but I also didn't act completely rudely to him until he was forced to call it off. Basic manners , come on.
I've been on dates before where we have not fancied each other, so we've politely and nicely treated each other like human beings.

I think you were unlucky @crochetmonkey74 and found someone with a total lack of manners and human decency. Who do these men think they are? Although, if there was no chemistry at least you didn't come away thinking about where it might go but I still hope for your sake that karma bites him back, good and hard! We've heard it said many times.. OLD is a numbers game, keep trying to and the next one may just click.

crochetmonkey74 · 23/09/2022 09:03

yes I definitely will- I actually quite enjoy dating- when I can be bothered with all the messaging!

I think he was rude, he could have found a thousand politer ways to break off the date. Basic adulting is observing social norms. OLD seems like the Wild West from some of the stories on here. I guess men have the luxury to be rude and dismissive whereas women need to watch out for their safety.

If it was a sudden change in behaviour and he was engaged in the first 10 minutes I do have to wonder if it’s something you said. If someone told me their favourite holiday was clubbing in Ibiza or eating a roast on the beach in Benidorm then I would know we were so fundamentally different that it was pointless to continue. I would be polite about it though.
