Married but living in different houses?

Been a bit inspired by the recent discovery that Charles and Camilla live in different houses. I'm wondering how common/popular this kind of arrangement is? Usually I guess, you get married and the 'done thing' is that you move in together (unless you already live together). But I've watched several friends' relationships nearly crack at this point because the blending of lives, habits and routines is just too difficult.

For me, I'm in my 40s, no kids, not currently married, love my home, and really like people but also love my own space. If I were to get married again, I really like this idea of a 'two household marriage'. Obviously it's a lot more complicated if you have children with your partner and probably not as easy.

But I'm just curious if anyone else does this and if it works or if it just creates more complications?

I'm single and can't see me wanting to live with man again even by the time I don't have dc living here. Separate homes is much more appealing.

ld love to do this with my DP. We’ve been together 6 years. Live about 10minutes drive from each other and for me the peace and space and me time in my home is a must. He has a smaller house that I’ve helped him decorate but it’s in a ‘his style’. His home is full of noise. Nearly constant loud music that isn’t background level and you need to raise your voice over. I. CAN. NOT. COPE. I stay at weekends but imagining this constantly.. I’m currently hiding in the loo for a break from it. I’m getting tested for ADHD as I find the stimulus of noise etc absolutely overwhelming to the point I’ve had to walk out the house before today or I’ve burst into tears. I’m fed up of explaining. I’m fed up of discussing it. I love him. I’d love the commitment of marriage. But living together. I don’t think it’s necessary for my sanity or his.

I've been single for years as I can't stand the thought of having to share my house with a man ever again... living in separate houses would suit me just fine.

We've done this for the last 10 years or so but we're about to combine households again. Once we live together we have agreed we will have our own sitting rooms so we can watch our own tv shows and have some alone time if we want/need it.

Living separately has worked really well for us - it's a second marriage but the kids are all grown up and left now so no stresses of the blended family etc. also with the cost of living crisis it makes sense to just run one home.
