Tips for surviving a LDR?

I've recently started seeing someone, but they live 2.hrs away... which means we're really restricted to weekends twice a month for a little while. (the'yre planning a move closer, was in pipeline before we got together.. we met via mutual friends up here and clicked)

We speak daily and are constantly messaging back and forth, we spend time watching stuff together that we stream and voice chat during too, but i'm really missing them in the interim time.

If you managed a LDR how did you stop yourself going mad missing them between visits?

Do you have much of a life of your own? It's hard to consistently miss someone for a period of time when you're also having tennis lesson, playing the piano, painting a picture, and doing an evening course in French cookery.

I'm a single parent to teens, and have my own life/hobbies, so plenty to keep me occupied, doesn't mean i'm not missing them though.

Being occupied by things isn't the same as being fired up by them. I can occupy half a day deep cleaning the bathroom, but my mind would be elsewhere. Fill your mind.

2 hours isn’t that much. Now DH and I lived 4 hours apart when we got together and saw each other most weekends.

I really liked it. I got to have time to focus on work, see friends and relax during the week and then weekends were exciting. Would go back to that in a heartbeat.

Sounds like you’ve been doing more than I did with my now husband when he lived away! We’d already been living together when he had to work away for a couple of years. It takes some getting used to but you will be fine. I’d suggest just keep talking every day, make plans to look forward to when you do get to see each other and distract yourself through the week with other things to fill your time. Remember it won’t last forever.

Sorry but I wouldn't think of 2 hours away as a long distance relationship unless it was 2 hours of flying time. Why can you only see each other 2 weekends per month? Is it because of childcare reasons?

@HundredMilesAnHour yep, job/kids. mine are with my ex every other weekend, it'll be a long time before i'm willing to bring them into my home while teens are here.

this is a relationship for me, i've been single 6 years since my marriage went tits up because of an abusive ex, i dont want to blend anything until i'm 100% positive its a strong foundation.
