During a disagreement between me and my husband, he called me a sadistic, nasty and dark person.

There is no coming back from this, is there?

I think we need more context
I've certainly been called worse during an argument and quickly gotten over it

Cheminaufaules · 02/08/2022 10:42

What triggered him to say this?

Getintoyou · 02/08/2022 10:44

It depends. I've been called worse and definitely said worse. Sometimes it's been true.

Callingmethis · 02/08/2022 10:47

I don’t want to say word for word, as it will be outing. It was not something that calls for being called those words though because I’m neither a nasty, sadistic or dark person. This isn’t the first time, he’s called me names before, rather than address the issue, he often resorts to labelling me.

Deflection technique on his part?

I think this too. He always nit-picks about the way I say things too, corrects me and tells me how to say things.

I think we all nit pick to some degree OP.
me and my DH have tit for tat moments.

What do you think he was referring to when he said these things and if it’s that serious you have to end it? We all have different boundaries. Yours may be less tolerable than mine. Good luck

Purplepeople12 · 02/08/2022 14:43

Well I've said a lot worse during arguments, and had worse said to me so I wouldn't bat an eyelid at this to be honest! I'd expect us to have talked it through and received a sincere apology afterwards though. I'd also have to reflect as to whether I'd behaved in the ways described over whatever the particular incident was

Don’t like the sound of that much. He’s always negging you and sounds like a patronising wanker. Does he think you!re beneath him that he needs to constantly correct you? Do you have dc? Don’t think he’d be any better with kids!

baileys6904 · 02/08/2022 18:21

Perhaps at that moment in time, you were being nasty, sadistic and dark?

None of us puts forward our best version in an argument

User23072 · 02/08/2022 22:15

For me, I'd be happy to both cool off and talk about things again. There are much worse things that could be said. It's all about context though, and your own boundaries.
