Do you remember your first ever date ?

I was 16 (late bloomer) and the boy was a friend of the family. He actually rang my dad first and asked if it would be ok to take me out. This would have been late 80s.

I knew I didn't fancy him but it seemed like all my other friends had boyfriends so I thought I'd give him a try. We went to see one of the Rocky films and then afterwards sat in McDonald's drinking milkshakes, having literally nothing at all to say to each other.

Unmitigated disaster and we had zero in common. Bizarrely he asked me out the following week and I agreed out of politeness but then I got my mum to ring his mum and tell him I didn't want to go.

Horrendous 😂

Yeah I was 18- very late bloomer and my date got so pissed he was stumbling all over my feet dancing. Disaster 😂

seaUrchinOne · 03/07/2022 00:18

Wasn't taken anywhere for a date 😂 I remember when I was 14 was the first time a boy asked me out, he was 16 and we went for a walk along the seafront one evening and then had a snog in an empty boat, that's all that happened and then we went home and that was it, didn't go out with him again, he was probably hoping for more which he didn't get.

FishcakesWithTooMuchCoriander · 03/07/2022 00:18

I was 16 too. He was (and, as far as i know, still is) a nice guy. It was organised by my friends. It was terrible though. We went to the cinema and I spent the whole time terrified he might want to kiss me or hold my hand. I really didn’t fancy him. I ran off to get my bus home afterwards and there were no more dates. I think he liked me. But I wasn’t mature enough to be flattered by that. So I was just horrified that someone I didn’t fancy liked me. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Holymole · 03/07/2022 00:28

Yes, it was with the boy next door when I was 15 (he was 16). We walked to a local pub beer garden, had one drink then he went and threw up in a bush. Turns out he'd been out all afternoon with his mates.

TheCrowening · 03/07/2022 00:34

Yeah I went to see the Lion King with a boy from my Saturday job. He was 2 years older than me and told me he’d lost his virginity at 13 and was really good at sex. I never saw him outside of work again 😬

EmmaH2022 · 03/07/2022 01:07

What counts as a first date? Not being 13 I presume?

First real date at 17, went to a lovely country pub. He was gorgeous. He was 20 and a right City boy. I knew him from my school, well, a bit.

It was such a lovely night. We listened to The Cars in the car 😂. The sunset over the countryside was lovely.

i had a midnight curfew but I didn't notice my parents existence much apart from that. After they met him and I went on the Pill, I was allowed to stay at his place as long as it wasn't a school night.

it was very happy time. Sadly he spoiled it by wanting me to move in at 19 😱

Thestoppedfan · 03/07/2022 01:11

I was 15 and he was the year above me at school. He turned up in an Asda T shirt as he said his others were in the wash (he hadn’t just done a shift and wasn’t due to do one either which I thought was odd but I think he had just got the job and wanted me to know he had one). We went to see ice age and held hands in the cinema.

Celia24 · 03/07/2022 01:23

I was 13 and it was a cinema date. I definitely consider this my first date. We were both really nervous and dressed up for it.

I had a lovely boyfriend at 13 but we were latchkey kids and lived 5 mins walk from each other. I don't think we ever went anywhere apart from the high street 😂 but we had lots of time at each other's houses.

tobee · 03/07/2022 01:52

Double date with my friend and 2 boys. Must have been 14/15. We went to the next big town by train. Had my first trip to McDonald's. Drank a milkshake at lunchtime. Went home after a bit of shopping. Didn't really fancy my chap. I was too shy and nervous beneath the surface. My friend ended up going out with him for a long time after.

Blue4YOU · 03/07/2022 01:54

Literally never ever had a date. I’m 47, married for 11 years. Lots of shags/one night stands/ weirdos after me. But never, ever been on a date . Makes me really sad to say that

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/07/2022 01:59

I saw Rocky. Bloody awesome. I was very nervous. I think I was about 13.

BareBelliedSneetch · 03/07/2022 02:11

I was 15. He was a year above me, but really only a few months older. We went to the cinema. I have no idea what the film was as I was concentrating on holding hands with a boy 😱

when we got outside afterwards he kissed me 😍I had to stand on a little brick wall around a flower bed in the street as he was a foot taller than me 😂

Downunderduchess · 03/07/2022 05:25

@Blue4YOU if you’ve been married for 11 years, how did you start going out with your husband, how did you get together? Hope you don’t mind me asking, but as you said you’ve never been on a date, I’m interested to know.

Inthesameboatatmo · 03/07/2022 07:42

I was 17 he was 19. We went to the harvester, had a lovely time until the bill came. He apparently had "forgotten his wallet ". So I paid all of it. I was expecting to at least offer him my half of the bill anyway but I only had a part time job at the time . Never saw him again much to his surprise

BertieBotts · 03/07/2022 07:50

Yes! I was 16 and we went to an Irish pub and played darts with some random old men and talked about how we were both good at maths XD I don't think we drank alcohol but I can't remember.

We kissed at the end and I remember just standing there thinking "This is weird/doesn't feel like I expected." I think we were just kind of going through the motions of what we thought kissing was. It was a bit like a washing machine going round and round. We didn't have much in common, but I was besotted with the idea that somebody liked me Blush and cried loads about the prospect of him going off to uni in September (we got together in January!) and leaving me. I had totally got bored of him by the summer Grin

Blue4YOU · 03/07/2022 09:25

@Downunderduchess we knew each other for a year before getting together.

sammylady37 · 03/07/2022 09:35

I was 18/19 and the date was with a guy I had met and snogged in a nightclub a few nights earlier. It was a time when mobile phones were relatively new, and most people didn’t yet have one, so they were a bit of a status symbol. He was working, I was a student. He picked me up in a very flashy car, and made a big show of telling me how high spec it was (which was wasted on me as I’m not into cars) and then we went to the cinema, where he proceeded to answer his mobile and loudly chat to someone during the film. I got up and walked out and never spoke to him again.

Mammyloveswine · 03/07/2022 10:11

14..went to the cinema to see Jurassic park 3 and then a McDonald's milkshake...he was 17 and had a car (he thought I was 16 🙈). Was a nice lad, shy. He used to ring me instead of texting which was sweet.

MyFirstDate · 03/07/2022 10:33

Haha, we were both about 15 I think, can't remember how we met but we went for a walk, ended up in the school grounds - schools weren't fenced off in those days!! 😆

Anyway, we were snogging passionately by the sports hall and were hidden as there was a bit of a recess in the wall. All very lovely when suddenly his bloody dog (labrador) who could smell my date's scent leapt at us in joyful gladness! 😆

My date's dad had come looking for him whilst walking the dog, as they were going out and he was late!

Bit embarrassing but we ended up going out with each other for quite a while.

Furrbabymama1987 · 03/07/2022 10:40

Yes. I was 12 and I went on a double date with my mate from school and her cousin, a boy I had a crush on from the local boy's school, and his mate. We went to the cinema to see a film ( I think it was What a Woman Wants) but never watched any of it as I was so nervous. I remember being very worried about kissing and had some chewies in my bag. We then went for a walk around the park, me and my fella went into the bushes and I had my first snog. I felt so grown up afterwards. I went on to "date" him, for about 3 months, then I dumped him for a boy 2 years older.

Marineboy67 · 03/07/2022 12:24

I was 15 she was the girl at school all the lads wanted to date. Very pretty & came from a quaker family that ran the meeting house. She got her friend to ask me out. We went for a walk and bought some chips from the local chippy sat on a bench for hours talking then I walked her home, had a quick fumbly snog. I got in to trouble went to borstal for a year hooked up with her again 3 years later. Stayed together for 23 years and had 3 daughters.

queenrollo · 03/07/2022 16:56

I was 13 and I fancied his big brother,. He asked me to a local disco, so I decided as his brother was way out of my league that I would give it a go. I can still remember wearing my favourite blue hair clip and my dad embarrassing the hell out of me by insisting on meeting this boy's parents outside first.
We actually ended up going out with each other for a year after that and then when he hadn't been at school for 4 days I asked his best friend if he was ill and he had to tell me that the family had moved to London. They were in the pub trade so it had been quite a last minute thing but he didn't know how to tell me - so he just didn't....
Broke my heart and I didn't go near boys again until I was 17.
