Testosterone for libido?

I’ve lost my libido. Not low, not comes and goes. Gone. Coincided with trying the nuvaring contraceptive 8 years ago and never came back.

I’ve spoken to my GP who is going to run some bloods and is sympathetic. She says I should try testosterone but that the referral on the NHS to a gynae (which I’d need) takes too long. She recommended a private consultation and initial prescription which the NHS could then continue.

She recommended the Newsome clinic which I’ve also seen in here. But I can’t afford the £250 for an appointment!

Can anyone recommend someone cheaper??

My gp prescribed testosterone. GP's can prescribe off licence but many won't. Loss of libido is the only reason gp's will prescribe usually. My gp referred me to gynae but I badgered her and really played on the lack of libido. She gave in. I wanted it more to try and clear the brain fog and get some muscle back.

The gynae waiting lists are too long as you say. If your bloods come back low then you don't actually need a referral. Apply some pressure if you can. Marriage on the rocks etc.

You tried the Nuvaring but then you got it removed?
Or do you still use this contraceptive and you've been having issues all that time?

@Nickersnackersnockers is right. They can prescribe it but a lot of GPs seem to treat any kind of HRT like it's radioactive material. Yes I think some of it is because it has to be prescribed off label, but I htink some of is because of isogynistic ideas that suffering is part of the woman's lot in life, and low/non existent libido is seem as something you just need to put up with. I don't think men would be expected to put up with non-existent libido.

One thing I would add though is that the female libido is more complex than 'just add testosterone'. Estrogen plays an important part. If you've been on that ring all these years, it's possible that the level of estrogen is your body right now is not your natural level of estrogen, and not the best level of estrogen for optimum function.

@Nickersnackersnockers Did testosterone clear your brain fog?

misogynistic ideas*

No I'm still waiting for the brain fog to clear. Think my estrogen may need upping or maybe the pump version of testosterone.
