Have you ever changed your job/department because of totally unachievable targets?

My friend asked me to ask on her behalf for obvious reasons and I won't name the company for obvious reasons.

She works in retail on foods and has to do the whole department like bread, rolls, cakes, eggs, minibites stickers reductions in 1 hour 30 minutes or even in 1 hour 20 minutes. Some managers expect=lie that the whole department can be done in 1 hour 10 minutes, 1 hour, or even under 1 hour. They obviously have never proved it to her by doing it themselves in front of her when she could time them and see it to believe it.

They've just gone crazy after the lockdowns squeezing every second possible out of workers.

Everyone has been timed and the average speed is 1 hour 40-45 minutes.

If the stock is low, she copes in 1 hour 40-45 minutes, if the stock is high like for Christmas and Easter it can easily take up to 2 hours minimum.

Please don't advise her to change her job. She is moving to the clothes department instead but she wanted to ask if anyone's gone through something similar and what did you personally do to improve the situation for the better for yourself?

Thank you.

I've had this. A job gave me a revenue target that could only realistically be delivered by a team of 4-5 people. Instead they expected me to deliver it all alone. Even if I worked 24 hours a day, it wasn't physically possible. I did all the costings and maths and showed them a detailed analysis of what I needed to achieve this - and they just ignored it all. I didn't fancy putting myself at risk of certain failure and also thought this leadership style unethical so i found a new job. In cases like this where you do everything to show them why the ask is impossible and what is realistically needed - and they still refuse to see it- you need to get out. As I often think it's a tactic to reduce workforce without actually saying so.

I think I know who this employer is. They will work you through the door except for their favourites . A shame a once great British iconic company who once treated their staff like the crown jewels .
