Which bit do you think he might be lying about?

Paying the deposit, travelling to Manchester, bringing the paperwork back to complete it, or buying the car at all?

It surely you will see the paperwork?

What do you think the purpose of this lie would be?

limitededitionbarbie · 03/06/2022 19:10

Well just have a look at the paperwork when he gets home. Has he bought it from a garage? Is it a new car?

Sounds completely normal to me. Seems like you have other worries though, why would lying be the default?

D0lphine · 03/06/2022 19:19

I did this when I was buying a car recently. The dealer sent off a form to the dvla to confirm the new registered owner.

Why are you so suspicious OP? Is something else going on?

Discovereads · 03/06/2022 19:21

If he’s financing the car, there will be forms to fill in to run a credit check and such prior to him going and actually getting the car. I have done it from home even before covid as I have bought cars online from dealerships.

User0ne · 03/06/2022 19:25

It'll be the v5 (ownership document), totally normal.

I don't think you should be considering moving in together if something as non-descript as this is causing problems

Rainbowshine · 03/06/2022 19:31

Last time we bought a car it took the best part of an hour - it’s not just the registration, if it’s a dealer then they go through warranty stuff, extras that they want to sell you, finance, breakdown services and car service packages. So it is plausible that it’s taken a long time.

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 03/06/2022 19:34

All I know is that if you sign a credit agreement you have to do it at the garage where the car is being sold.
I can't help any more, sorry.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 03/06/2022 19:36

Have you ever bought a car? There is a lot of paperwork at it does not all have to be done at the time. Informing the DVLA for example is probably something you would do from home. Also, maybe insurance? There are a lot of different ways that can be done.

layladomino · 03/06/2022 19:54

It's perfectly possible that he's doing some paperwork at home. But the real question here is why you are suspicious of this? If you trusted him it wouldn't occur to you to be suspicious of this. There must be a reason for you not to trust him, as this on its own is not suspicious in the remotest.

Do you feel better for posting that?

Aprilx · 03/06/2022 20:33

I honestly do not understand what it is you are worried about or why this is such a concern to you? Baffling.

decayingmatter · 03/06/2022 20:36

I can't understand what you think he's doing instead of filling a form in?
