Couples who have totally different styles

I have quite an eclectic style. I wear bright colours, I like wearing fishnets a lot, bandanas, tank tops etc. I dress a lot like Rihanna does and have my hair braided different colours. Most guys I've dated have had totally opposite style to me. Jeans, t-shirt, nothing fancy etc. I like that kinda slouchy casual style on guys. So my question, do you usually go for people with similar fashion tastes to you? Do you think couples who look completely polar opposites look odd? Just a lighthearted question :)

No. My DP and I have totally different styles. Never been an issue and we joke about it but nobody else has ever said anything.

I don't think it matters. I love style and fashion, often dress very alternative/grunge, but other days I'm looking street style, or smart, or girlie florals. My dh couldn't care less about clothes and would live in the same t-shirt and shorts day in and day out if they didn't need to be washed occasionally 😅 I don't care, he is who he is, and I didn't choose him for his style choices.

I really don't think it matters unless you're hoping to an influencer couple with matching turkey teeth or something. Opposites attract and all that!

My OH likes to dress smart-ish but tends to always be t-shirt or polo shirt and jeans, he will dress up on holiday and don a tux. I flit between Morticia Addams, a Metalhead and Amanda Owen with a lot of tweed and earthy colours in the middle.

I have never paid too much attention to coup,ds having different styles

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/05/2022 15:03

I've often well back in the day when we were very social looked at us both and said it looks like we are going to completely different events.

It's part of the fun really

Sunnygirl1 · 18/05/2022 15:26

I am quite similar to my husband.

We both like to dress up for special events and wear relaxing casual everyday clothes.

It's a very superficial sort of question. In any healthy relationship, there's a lot more going on than clothes and fashion.

Regularsizedrudy · 18/05/2022 17:00

I think it’s more odd when couples have super matching styles.. makes me wonder if they’d still be interested in each other if they didn’t!

Yeah of course. It's just lighthearted.

No, we’re totally different. I have quite a retro style whilst DP just throws on a pair of jeans with a T-shirt. His style has developed over the years, in that he will now wear coloured T-shirt’s rather than just grey!
I’ve never tried to change his style and he’s the same with me, although I sometimes catch him staring at some of my colour combinations with a perplexed expression.

layladomino · 18/05/2022 18:08

I've never given it any thought. It wouldn't come on to my radar to compare the fashion decisions of couples to be honest. So, no, I don't think they look off just because they dress differently. If one of them was dressed totally inappropriately for the occasion that would stand out perhaps.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/05/2022 18:19

My style and DH's couldn't be more different. I dress to be noticed - bit boho, lots of colours, very much my own style rather than what's in fashion - whereas he likes very plain, "quiet" clothes, in neutral or dark colours, with absolutely no logos ever!

No one's ever commented, though I suspect you might not clock us for a couple of you met us socially.

Last week I went down to see my boyfriend...turned out we were wearing the same clothes...dark blue jeans, vans long sleeve t shirt and both had hi top vans sneakers on with a jean jacket over it all. We both burst out laughing so much and ribbed each other a lot. We decided not to change clothes as it looked hilarious....much to many of his friends amusement all day. It hasn't happened since and I can flit from florals, to leather jackets to shorts and t shirt in a heart beat. He's a trendy jeans and t shirt kinda guy. We are in our late 50s by the way not late teens!
