My nan, who was widowed at 57, and is now 85 has a boyfriend. They’ve been friends for a year and she told me this morning they are in love! I said are you partners? She replied to not call them that they aren’t that old 😁and that he is her boyfriend. She’s like a teenager and it made me smile. Who says getting old has to be miserable!

Sorry to be cynical, but is he after her money?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 08/05/2022 12:53

My widowed mum at 76 has a 'gentleman caller'. They have little trips out, he brings her grocery shopping from town (she doesn't drive), they talk politics and she enjoys making him dinners and baking for him. He is a lovely man and clearly cares a lot about her and I'm really happy for the pair of them.

Mariposista · 08/05/2022 13:06

This is so unbelievably sweet! I bet he calls her his 'lady friend'.

napody · 08/05/2022 13:06

Mine does too! Started ‘courting’ when she was 85, she’s just turned 90. He’s independent and no plans to move in together. It’s a lovely thing.

OnoNotagain · 08/05/2022 13:07

Brilliant .... love it that they're in love at that age, and why not.

iklboo · 08/05/2022 13:09

How lovely!!

Nailest · 08/05/2022 18:15

That’s lovely to hear :).

My dm was matron of an old people’s home. They had a couple there get married. I can’t quite remember their ages now but it did make the local news!

PukkaP · 08/05/2022 18:20

This is brilliant. There's hope for me yet 😊

My OH's grandma got married again at 85, to a 76 year old toyboy (So she called him). She'd been widowed quite a long time, and they both lived in the same sheltered accommodation. They met at an afternoon tea dance, and got married about six months later.
As she said, "At our time of life, there's no time for messing around."
He was a lovely man. He was widowed as well, and they were very happy for eight years until she died at 93.
She made us laugh, my OH called her and said "I hear you've got a boyfriend?" and she said "He's not just a boyfriend, if l fall pregnant, we'll have to get married, won't we, or your mam'll have a fit...."
Lovely lady. So lovely that they both found someone in later life.

Alcemeg · 08/05/2022 18:45

She felt bad at first as they only knew each other as she knew his wife. His wife that died 25 years ago!

That has properly warmed my heart and made me laugh out loud 😍
