Hello

My daughter is 9 year old and switched on for her age.

She attends a catholic school and is due her holy communion.

I have paid in with 2 other parents for a partY etc afterwards.

Problem is she really doesn't want to do it, doesn't want to wear a white dress or be in a big crowd.

I am fine with this, but more concerned about the school. I have told the other parents I am not attending the party.

As parents would you make her do it? If she doesn't want too?

I was just going to see the Priest and see if he would do it one no fuss, no dress or anything.

Any opinions pease x

Sounds like she is worried about the holy communion?
How has it been explained to her and does she actually want to do that part or is it just the party she does not want?

I wouldn't force any of my dc to a holy communion if they were not 100% on board with it. perhaps have a talk with her and find out exactly what the problem is. If its just a case of she really just doesn't want the dress and a party, then don't make her wear a dress or have a party.

I absolutely would not force her. First holy communion is about making the choice for herself that she wants to be part of the faith. If however you think it's the being centre of attention that worries her, I would explore ways that she could take her first communion and ditch the party bit.

I think I would gently explain that it’s an important part of first holy communion to take part but leave the party but. I’m not saying force it but children have to have the skills in later life to attend things that they’re not 100% comfortable with. By ‘confronting’ their fears a bit helps them in the future to gain confidence. I’d be firm but kind on this one
