I Love You

All MNers - whats the difference between loving your partner and being in love with them? How many times a day do they tell you they love you?

Maidamess · 07/01/2008 21:11

Not every day. But its the things you do rather than the words you say that show how you are loved.

TellusMater · 07/01/2008 21:11

How many times a day?

DH very rarely says the three little words.

He does bring me a cup of tea in bed every morning though. So I guess he speaks without works

And as to your first question - I have no idea...

When we leave for work, if we text one another, before we go to bed, sometimes a couple of times a day.
but we are soppy sods

08aGreatYearForCarmenere · 07/01/2008 21:14

Dp says it most days

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 07/01/2008 21:14

I don't know if there is a great difference tbh. DP and I have been together for 4 years, and I still get excited when he walks through the door every evening. Is it because I love him, or because I am in love with him?? I really don't know, I just love everything about him, and vice versa.

Dixichik · 07/01/2008 21:15

My dp asked me yesterday if I was in love with him and I said I loved him but I didn't know if I was in love with him. Whats the difference?

OP posts:
anorak · 07/01/2008 21:15

every day, after being together 10 years. I don't know about these figures of speech, they mean different things to different people, but I feel that love is a verb, something you have to make a conscious choice to do even when you don't feel like it. More of a commitment than a soppy feeling in your tummy.

tiredemma · 07/01/2008 21:15

Doesnt say it everyday- but I do feel loved everyday - if that makes sense??

anorak · 07/01/2008 21:17

If you are as concerned about your partner's wishes, needs and welfare as your own, then you love him.

kerryk · 07/01/2008 21:21

dh tells me about 68,463 times a day, in the morning, at night, during sex, in the shops, on the phone, when passing me on the stairs..... blah blah blah

he knows that i love him but i dont tell him very often, i wait till i get that sudden rush of love for him. that way i think it means more.

i get the same feeling of love/being special when dh calls me by my first name, since we got together he has always called me honey (i know i know dont all be sick) so it really makes me feel special when he remembers that my name is kerry and calls me that iykwim??

cheesesarnie · 07/01/2008 21:24

my new years resolution was to make dh love me again.i told him i love you lots and was perfect wife.given up already as im fed up with no response!he says it when hed like sex .he never shows itwoe is me

cheesesarnie · 07/01/2008 21:26

bloody hell-after reading posts i feel !everyone else has lovely relationships!or atleast partners/husbands that try!(and im not one of those that moan about men or that dh doesnt do this or that btw!)

moljam · 07/01/2008 21:27

whoops-those last posts were me.i name changed but didnt use name and forgot to change back

squimlet · 07/01/2008 21:36

Well my dh doesnt tell me that often that he loves me, but I do know he does.

He teases me, he touches me, he smiles and laughes with me so in that way I know he loves me without saying it.

That said it would be nice if he said it a bit more.

I think 'in love' is an idea, a romantic fantasy, the first flush of passion, the tremblies, iyswim.

I think love is the deep, long-lasting, warts-n-all reality of a committed relationship. The partnership.

I tell dh I love him loads, both verbally and in my actions. He does likewise.

Twinkie1 · 08/01/2008 09:14

I love my DH and I am in love with him - he is kind, caring, considerate, generous, handsome, funny, terribly clever and I tell him I love him numerous times throughout the day - sometimes I look at him and get goose bumps a how lucky I am to have him!

Mind you he is under the impression that he is terribly lucky to have me too so we are in a win win situation with neither of us being able to believe our luck!

God that sounds sooooo soppy!

Love DH. Not in love, not for years.

We say it quite a lot but TBH it doesn't mean that much - actions speak louder IMO and doing something thoughtful and loving means a great deal more. Showing that you know what your partner likes and needs and that you care enough to remember.

missingtheaction · 08/01/2008 09:33

I think one is the lovely short-term gooey slushy feeling that makes you smile and leap on each other the minute you come through the door and go for walks holding hands and makes friends ask you if you've lost weight/found a new hair dye etc etc. The Box of Chocolates feeling.

the other is where you want to make a long term committment and can't imagine drawing your pension without him and no longer overlook his smelly feet/belief in the Laundry Fairy. The Bread and Butter feeling.

but confusingly, I would call the box of chocolates 'in love' and the bread and butter 'love', while dp does it the other way round.

we are at the box of choclates stage and say it all the time when we are togehter, and at least daily when we aren't

dragonstitcher · 08/01/2008 09:43

DH says it everyday but to me they are just words that are used too easily. He phones me from work and says it at the end of the call and then waits for me to reply as though it's a test. I prefer to show love rather than use empty words.

This song says what I am trying to say much better than I could ever.
