Beneficial interest

Hi everyone. Please please can anyone help me. So I own my house, my husband is divorcing me and wants beneficial interest. But, he hasn't paid a penny towards bills etc. I don't have a mortgage. He claims on the advaffit that he worked full time on renovating the property which is a lie as he is medically retired due to back problems and a brain haemorrhage.,but still not paid anything towards the house. Can he really claim this?. Am at my wits end as my 85year old father lives here, together with my 2 children. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

You may get lots of posters telling you how it works, but they will be basing their experiences on the law of E&W, Scotland or NI. Jersey has its own law and while there will be some crossover between the two systems it is a dangerous thing automatically assuming the same rules apply, building your expectations on incorrect advice. You have dependents, for a period of time, and that should count for a lot.

Thank you. I just given up. I worked so hard to prove he contributed nothing but it doesn't seem to count. It's not the fmh if his been sleeping with someone else who text me to say that. My lawyer thinks I should
Give him 50% after taking dad's money off. I still don't think that's right

My dear children count for nothing in jersey.sometimes I am so depressed I think the only solution is suicide then at least my kids get e everything I worked for for them.

In England the house would be a marital asset and unless it was a very short marriage it wouldn’t matter who paid what. No idea how it works in Jersey though. Have you spoken to a solicitor yet?

TargusEasting · 02/06/2022 21:40

That won't help them and they will get it eventually anyway when your proper time comes.

Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday, and all is well. So too tomorrow.
