Wedding present ideas

One of my close friends is getting married in a few weeks time. They are 69 and 63.

They are very comfortably off financially so don't 'need' anything and, at their ages, have everything you'd traditionally give anyway!

They're not having a traditional wedding - a private ceremony and then a celebratory meal for around 20 in the evening - to which my daughter and I have been invited.

There is no suggestion at all of a gift list but I feel I want to get something.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think I would just get them a very nice bottle of champagne. Any "thing" you buy will probably gather dust.

NoNeedToWorryAboutAThing · 19/03/2022 04:48

Nice idea. Yes I thought the same about 'things'.

I'm not sure she drinks. I've never seen her do so. But it's a nice idea. Thanks

What about a restaurant voucher or voucher for afternoon tea?

Lena007 · 19/03/2022 06:47

I was thinking some sort of voucher. Do they have a hobby? Anything they enjoy doing together?
Spa day? Thai massage for couples? As pp said voucher for a restaurant?

Flowers, vine/champagne and a voucher would be perfect I think Smile

dolphinsanddoughnuts · 19/03/2022 06:50

Fortnum and mason breakfast hamper would be a nice treat x

AuntieStella · 19/03/2022 07:06

I would ask if they have a list or a preferred charity.

If no to both, then a good borrow (or crate) of their preferred booze, or a voucher for somewhere that covers a multitude of stuff such as John Lewis

DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 07:08

Agree with a hamper or a voucher for an experience day, something consumable which doesn't take up space

Ofcourse91 · 19/03/2022 07:34

What about a voucher for a cookery class that they could do together?

KosherDill · 19/03/2022 07:46

Garden centre voucher?

Take photos at wedding & send the nicest one framed?

Sprig1 · 19/03/2022 07:53

I would say a restaurant voucher. Or if they are in to gardening then a tree/rose bush to mark the occasion.

BeaLola · 19/03/2022 07:56

Champagne
If they are keen gardeners a voucher for their local garden centre or Crocus online,
M&S or Fortnums hamper
Restaurant voucher

I’m intrigued that you don’t know whether a close friend drinks or not?

PatsyClinSilVousPlait · 19/03/2022 17:22

A restaurant voucher for somewhere you know they like/would like.

That's what I'd do

Not everyone drinks or talks about drinking
SarahBellam · 19/03/2022 17:41

Don’t get them anything that involves them having to make an effort of book something, or go and do something they may not want to do. Hamper = good. Couples massage = not so good. Agree with hamper, flowers, tree or bush type thing, charity donation, a few bags of really nice coffee if they’re into coffee (I would love that).

MoreHairyThanScary · 19/03/2022 17:43

Do they have a garden ? A special palnt or (small) tree might be nice.

Especially something that flowers this time of year?

Hbh17 · 19/03/2022 17:46

Charity donation.

Namechangedforspooky · 19/03/2022 17:46

There’s a climbing rose called Wedding Day which would be lovely if they have a garden.
Or a wedding word cloud? (Not sure if this would be considered a bit naff!)

Timetoretiretospain · 19/03/2022 17:57

I’m roughly in this age range and about to get married . A restaurant voucher would be my preference .

Harp1977 · 19/03/2022 18:06

I got married last month, we got gifted an afternoon tea voucher, a voucher for a spa hotel, a posh picnic lunch hamper and vouchers for a local restaurant. Other then the spa hotel and afternoon tea we have plans for the more local ones and have to decide what to do re the spa and afternoon tea (not local and will cost us almost the value of the gift to get there/use it)
