In laws living in each other pockets, I need space!

My DP's family are from a South Asian culture where extended family living is often the norm (even in UK). You can often get 3 or 4 generations of 1 family under the same roof.
I'm not used to this. I'm an only child and grew up with lots of space at home.
DP is expected to moved his wife (potentially me?) into his DPs home and raise his own family there. 2 of his brother have already got married, moved their wives in to parents' home and raised their own children there. So right now in 1 sub-urban semi (average size house, not large, and just 1 bathroom/1 living room) there are: My DP's parents, 2 of their sons, 2 wives and 4 kids between them. Each family unit in 1 bedroom.
Just hearing about this makes me feel sweaty, claustrophobic and anxious lol.
DP and I both have good professional and well paid careers so we could easily afford our own place but the "cultural expectation" from his parents is that he moves his wife in and does same as his brothers.
The parents have already been really welcoming to me (despite my different cultural background. Same religion though, so that might have helped them accept me easily).
My family wouldn't want me moving in with future in-laws when I've worked so hard for my career, savings etc.
DP agrees but I think he feels a deep-rooted sense of obligation to follow tradition. Obviously don't want to offend or upset DP's family but I just feel that their home looks like an overcrowded hostel. Washing racks all over the landing, endless mountains of cooking, queues for the bathroom. Who really needs to live in such overcrowded conditions?
Any ladies here been in this situation?
