Why do men intermittently reach out

Why do men who I’ve dated or spoken to in the past reach out randomly when I post a nice photo on social media, even when they were the ones to ghost/call things off originally? Most odd behaviour.

One who I was previously seeing and it ended badly due to his actions in January sent me a “how are you” text and I replied saying “sorry who is this” and haven’t had a response since May have been a bit petty but for all he knew I could well have deleted his number and I didn’t want to open up old wounds by getting into a conversation with him.

But the behaviour generally confuses me and annoys me sometimes as well.

I have a few who do this periodically (I’ve dated on and off for years!). I find it hilarious and pathetic. The way I deal with it depends on who sent the message, usually I ignore but there are a couple who I will reply to but not ask ANY questions at all just to see how long they keep trying to carry on the conversation. Obviously nobody EVER gets directly to the point and admits they are just after sex.
I also find men are more likely to message at times they feel lonely, eg around Xmas, or perhaps if an ex of theirs is getting married etc

Some men just like to think you’re on their hook so they can reel you back in whenever they’re bored or want a shag

Casual sex or they haven’t found anyone else and thought to try again with you.
