Where to even start (end of marriage)

Am writing on behalf of someone close as they're scared of being found out. Lots of back story but basically they're in a controlling marriage, have no clue about their finances (he's kept it all secret from her) and she's finally had enough. She's completely overwhelmed about where to even start with the process of splitting up - who to contact etc. They do have children. Any advice really appreciated.

If she’s actually married that’s a good start. Ideally she should contact woman’s aid to get some advice, but at the very least she needs to find a solicitor who specialises in abusive relationships and will be well placed to deal with the fuckery this guy will 100% throw her way during a divorce.

If your friend is in the UK she could contact Womens Aid. She should also seek legal advice re divorce from a Solicitor. I would also be thinking about employing a forensic accountant if her H is hiding money from her (a solicitor may be able to help with that side of things too).

Her safety now as well as that of her children's is of paramount importance. He is not going to make any aspect of her separating from him at all easy and he will remain as abusive post divorce too.

Think he will absolutely make this as hard as possible. Good advice about Women's Aid thank you

Online to check re benefits. Go to gov.uk and see what they’d be entitled to. Citizens advice bureau also are helpful.
