How can someone be heartless?

My partner of 19 years is one I really cannot fathom out. He’s a good hard working loyal man but the bad out ways the good. He’s controlling and wants to know my kids personal life (their adults) money earnings etc he constantly creates rows and a bad atmosphere resulting in weeks of not speaking to me. I carry on as normal I don’t play the game I just think it’s childish. It’s like living with a duel personality. His playing games on his phone all night gets on my nerves as there’s no conversation he’s got nothing but work to talk about and just repeats what he said the night before. He must be dreadfully unhappy. We have a teenager and it’s him keeping us under the same roof. I cannot find a full time job in my area if I could I would end this relationship and sell up and move on.

No relationship is worth staying because you have a kid together.

Really18 · 14/02/2022 21:08

It sounds like your done. End the relationship and move on.

How is your teenager doing in life? Are they ok? Must be tough having a dad who stonewalls their mum for weeks.

Will they support you if you move?

This is the question that keeps going around in my head to be honest. Our son is a great kid and loves us both I’m sure equally but would I spoil that love by splitting up with his Dad even though he knows his Dad can be pretty petty and childish at times. I can rehouse us back at my parents house but it’s not ideal living with an 84yr old who I also care for. Plus at my age it’s very difficult to get a full time job where I live. I just don’t know what to do but I know I’d rather be on my own than live in a loveless partnership.

You describe him as a 'good' man in your op. A good man wouldn't act as he does.

And whether or not he's 'good' a loveless marriage is not healthy for either partner or for any children living with them.

Because he's never experienced a bad side to his childishness.
He's a cunt. But he's still got wife, kids, home, job, friends etc etc etc.
Why would he change?
