I am a part of the gaming community and wondered if women have ever tried gaming to meet a new mr right?

So many people do singles events, go clubbing or whatever.. Just wondered if you would try it or whats stopping you etc

I’ve heard of people meeting partners this way it’s not something I would do personally though

I would love to know why.

I think a lot of people are ignorant towards the community because they assume we are playing games that maybe young children play.

There is a vast resource of men who enjoy history, art etc but dont want to act like fools drinking to find love.

OK. Well my experience is that there is a huge difference between people who enjoy gaming occasionally and those who describe themselves as 'gamers' or members of the gaming community.

In my experience, they are immature, have poor social skills and are unable to form real life relationships as much of their lives and intereactions are conducted online.

It's also easy for people to present as whoever they wish online and construct entirely fantasy versions of themselves - who they'd like to be rather than who they are.

If they genuinely enjoyed history/art etc, they'd be out there living those things. Not immersing themselves in fictional virtual lives.

But that's just my experience...

As a "gamer" myself.

I am a woman and part of a number of discord servers where people get together on the regular and game. It's a great way to meet people with similar interests.

90% of the people in these communities seem to be men. And contrary to a lot of things I see on MN, I've had interest from 2 men (of the maybe 25 odd) that I game with on the regular over the past 3 years, so yes lots of platonic relationships have formed and potential relationship opportunities have come up too. I haven't entered a relationship with either of them though because I didn't feel like there was anything there but friendship. But of course if you do a shared hobby with people then there's a fair chance you'll find someone who is interested in you romantically eventually, and you just need to hope for the magic moment you have an attraction to the same person.

Both the men that expressed and interest in me were well rounded men with good jobs and a social life. I absolutely disagree that anyone who games is impossible of self regulating or having adult responsibilities. That's stupid. Theres going to be people like that in all walks of like interested in all sorts of thing and it's a case of sniffing them out. I am a well rounded adult who games regularly. It gets tiresome reading some of the stuff about gamers on this site sometimes.

No more for shallow reasons that I would like to know what someone looks like before speaking with them On that level, with gaming I assume you just get talking to them and have no idea what they actually look like at first? For me dating is based on looks (at first.)

You say in your experience yet, that is the sterotypical opinion from someone who has no experience.

Its easy to present yourself however you wish, where ever you are. Pickup artist?

The majority of people communicate over the internet now and it is the way of the future. Whatsapp, facebook, tiktok etc

Unfortunately we have been unable to construct a teleporter with a time machine so.... If i want to know about caesar in gaul or face Darius at Gaugamela.

Again it sounds like your experience was a man child with a games console. Man child with football. Man child with x hobby is a man child.

While im sure there is some virtual dating experience to be had somewhere, people interact over voice mostly.

The problem with your approach is that looks fade, people rot and bloat. You might find the person you talk with about politics/religion/world events etc might be Handsome Dan!

Actually, I'm basing it on my experience of people in real life (well, men) who describe themselves as being gamers and in gaming communities. They're not men I've dated and they are serious online gamers.

Very young for their ages (whatever their age), odd attitudes towards women, poor social skills, always single and hoping to meet a woman online.

So, yes, I do have experience but I haven't dated any of them.

Im confused sorry, you say you havent dated a "gamer" but you know about them?

Again sounds like generic, sterotypical attitude.

So you asked for opinions, then the person who did politely engage with you and indulged you, you just dismissed them and their view?
Maybe you should post this question in AIBU?

Knutface · 15/02/2022 20:22

Personally I avoid any man that has gaming as a hobby OLD. The profiles just remind me of my teenage sons and their friends (into gaming, marvel etc)! But you are definitely correct that the majority of gamers are male.

GreyCarpet · 15/02/2022 20:58

Yes. I have been known to know men other than those I have dated...
