Do you buy your love one a valentines card or present! We have always done it ! Yes it’s commercialised I know and yes you should appreciate them everyday regardless of which day it is! It’s one day a year!

@PlanetNormal

No. Never have, never will.

It’s a load of commercialised nonsense aimed at those who think they have to express affection for their partners when the marketing department of Tesco tell them to.

Always these silly posts. Me and DH show love every single day. We often buy each other a little present if we see something we know the other would like. DH quite often buys me flowers.

It's not an either or situation. It is perfectly possible to be loving all year AND still do something for Valentines.

YOU many think it is commercialised nonsense but many people, including me and DH, do not. We see it as a day to celebrate, an extra excuse to take a day off work and go out or to go away.

I don't need to be told when to show affection and neither does DH. We have a very happy and loving marriage and have done for 42 years

My husband has admitted he hasn't got me anything and I feel a bit disappointed as he's nevee romantic as it is and I've got him a card. I feel stupid for giving him one now. Kids will probably berate him when only mine goes up as well. My eldest son is soft like that bless him

We do a card, often we make them with something relevant/appropriate for whatever is going on, and we do note it, but no gifts beyond maybe a bar of chocolate.

I think it is naff but also where is the harm in it?

HermioneWeasley · 13/02/2022 18:54

We always do a Morrisons Valentines meal deal, not because we’re romantic but because it’s a bargain.

Sweetener12 · 14/02/2022 08:39

We exchange chocolates or cookies, he rings me flowers and I make a somewhat romantic smartshow 3d video with our pics that are particularly cute or silly. I know it's commercialised to bits but it's still another option to treat your SO to something nice, so why not.

Sweetener12 · 14/02/2022 08:40

he brings not rings

SouthParkCovid · 14/02/2022 08:42

Yes a card and usually flowers.
We usually go out but takeaway tonight as we have a baby now.

saleorbouy · 14/02/2022 08:45

No my DW hates cards for any celebration so we don't bother and never have in the 15yr we've been together.
To be honest we do more spontaneous gestures during the year which are nice as they are more of a surprise and are perhaps gifts that we just saw on the spur of the moment.

A card. I am definitely of the show love every day school of thought and I do. I had one relationship when he went in for it - cards, presents, cuddly toy with hearts, champagne etc - and the other 364 days a year were seriously controlling bullshit. It has massively put me off and quite frankly I don't need one day a year to 'show' love when it is in every contact we have with each other.

layladomino · 15/02/2022 14:46

I'm very much neutral on this.

We didn't buy cards or gifts this year (although we did do something nice, but that was coincidental that it fell on V Day!) We agreed in advance and both of us are fine with that.

Some years we've gone out for a meal or cooked something special. Mostly not though.

We're quite 'romantic' (for want of a better word) generally though. We might buy something 'just because' on any day, and we're honest with our feelings so neither of us are in any doubt about how much we love each other.

So yes, I'm firmly on the fence..... I don't begrudge people who 'do' Valentines, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the people who don't 'do' it. I don't think it's a marker of how happy you are or otherwise.
