OLD: what's with the dog photos?

I'm male, generally sworn off OLD but thought I'd reactivate my account tonight, to take a look for old times sake. I was struck by how many women hereabouts include a photo of their dog in their profile. Not them holding their dog. Just their dog.

Can anyone shed light as to why? I want to date a woman, not her dog. Is this some newfangled dating strategy? It's got me somewhat baffled.

A Ersin's dog says a lot about them dumbass

I assume because they are animal lovers and want a match who won't mind sharing their lives with cats, dogs and other pets...

I don't see anything wrong with it. If you have dogs, you don't want a potential partner who has an allergy to them, does not like them or is scared of them.

They are a part of your life, you need to spend time and often money caring for them and anyone who dates you needs to be happy with that.

I would never date someone who does not like animals or who is scared of them. Deal breaker for me.

They want you to know the dog is important to them and a big part of their lives. Also it gives an indication that you like exercise and can take care of a pet.
For me to be honest, it would be a turn off. I love animals but when it comes to dogs I have a slight phobia due to past experiences and don't want to be tied to a dog regarding holidays and days out.

However I am very much a cat person and a man with a cat picture is the holy grail! 😂
Like a PP said, these are very rare.

Lots of men pose with fish they've caught. Far more baffling. Does it mean, "must like trout"?

Could they be trying to say that, yes, you'd be dating them, but there will also be this third entity in the relationship, so you'd better see them right from the get-go?

No, it literally just means "I like fishing."

Sorry, but men aren't as cryptic as you like to pretend they are. They're generally pretty straightforward.

I always thought the fish thing was the token pic for " Plenty of Fish "

I think you’ll find that she was making what is known as a ‘joke’.

Ah, so all the women in this thread were only joking when they said they had a problem with fishing photographs? Thanks for clearing that up.

No, the specific woman to whom you were responding at that time was making a very obvious joke. Which is why I said ‘she’ not ‘they’.

And, you’re very welcome.

If I saw a man on a site with a Lab or Retriever then he would be getting a very positive response from me! If he had a staffy then not so much!
