How many hours does your 3 year old go nursery if you're SAHM?

Thanks!

My son currently doing 10 hours!

He isn't settling too well yet as he was going to 2 different ones as I attempted to go back to work.. it's caused him a lot of stress so I've cancelled one and scaled back the other ones hours to 2 mornings a week..

Now I'm thinking he isn't getting the social interaction needed.

Anyone 3 year olds (he turned 3 in October) do limited sessions?

4 hours 5 x a week but I also have a 18 m old

He was 3 in the summer though so I guess school year above yours so it’s a bit different

I think they get 15 hrs in England from 3 so most would use them?

Both of mine did five afternoons at the local school nursery from age 3, then up to five full days at 4, then into Reception class next door at 5

Dd was at nursery Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8am - 6pm at that age. I did work those days, but when I took some time off I kept her in.

I found that those three days worked well because we’d have bank holidays off together, and the thurs/Fri felt like a long weekend.

3 days was great and helped her settle into school so we’ll. she was fine from day one, where as children who never went to nursery are still struggling most mornings even now. Something I hadn’t considered but makes a huge amount of difference.

It's the term after 3 though isn't it, so OP might not get them until January.

Ah I don't know. Our school said they had space so could start on their third birthdays

My 3.5 year old does 15hrs. 3x3hr and 1x6hr. He loves it and so do I! He started doing a few hours at 2.5, then we added a couple more sessions here and there.

My DD did the same hours, except she didn't start until she was 3. But she's a March and he's a July born, so we wanted him to start a bit earlier.

Mine always did 2 full days a week 9-5 from age 2 even though I'm a SAHM. It kept me sane

CateCroc · 25/01/2022 16:03

Mine does 3 days per week 9-5pm

I’m not a SAHM but if I became one tomorrow I would still keep her at nursery for the 3 days (finances permitting obviously) although I may pick her up at 3pm rather than 5pm as she gets tired towards the end of the day

She loves “school” as she calls it, has loads of friends & I’m hoping she’ll transition to Reception (in the building next door) smoothly in September

My DH is a SAHD. DS is 3 and goes 3 full days. He loves it and they've really helped with his speech.

LeroyJenkinssss · 25/01/2022 16:10

We used all the free hours so 2.5 days a week. My husband was the SAHP and I pushed that ds went (our eldest was already at school) as I thought it important from a social interaction POV but also that DH got time to himself.

If he’s struggling to settle then I know sounds weird but he actually might be better doing more hours, not less, as it’ll be easier to learn the routines, make friends, bond with the staff etc. but yes I’d definitely do one setting not split between two. I imagine 15 hours is the typical amount because everyone gets those as funded hours, our nursery didn’t even take them for less than 3 mornings which I hear is fairly typical too. I have a summer born so it’s a bit different but she did 5 full days at a school nursery (so term time only and 9am-3pm) from 3 because I wanted to be sure she’d be ready for school. Then it was a easy transition to reception as it was on the same site and she was used to the hours. The plan is that her younger brother will start there with 3 mornings at 2.5 and build up to full time for the last year before he starts school. At which point I might consider going back to work!

YellowLemonz · 25/01/2022 16:14

21 hours over 4 days.

Tbh he may require more than 2 hours to feel the benefit and get him in settled him

BrunoJenkins · 25/01/2022 16:15

He's currently doing 3 mornings (9 hours) a week but that'll go up to 5 mornings next term when he becomes eligible for the free 15 hours. He loves "school" so it's a no brainier really.

myhousebuild · 25/01/2022 16:17

Mine did 9:00-12:00 5 mornings as it was 100% free for the 15 hours and only 5min walk from home so I could get a lot done!
