I feel like everyone else has gotten a big smile from there babies and mine hasn’t yet. She makes great eye contact and is very engaged but just won’t give me a smile. Anyone else’s babies not smiling yet or had a late smiler?

Does she smile when she farts or poos? If so she can do it, just won't do it on cue.

Enough4me · 12/01/2022 00:48

Maybe she's the smartest one as too busy absorbing what she sees to reflect back, her brain is learning so many things - she's busy.

If she was several more weeks older I would think it unusual, but milestones are averages and they are all different (my eldest didn't crawl at all, or walk until she was well over a year, but talked v early and is still bossy).

Enough4me · 12/01/2022 00:48

*she's 15!

WheelieBinPrincess · 12/01/2022 00:49

Honestly that’s quite early to be worrying about it.

Oatsamazing · 12/01/2022 01:06

My 15mo DD didn't smile until around 12 weeks. She's been around average/slightly ahead with all her other milestones like sitting up, crawling, etc. I don't think you need to worry at all.

SVRT19674 · 12/01/2022 08:47

I didn´t know smiling was a thing, she is so young, and at that age they still don´t see that well. Just relax and let things happen when they should happen naturally for her. My daughter followed her own timetable. She walked and talked later and never crawled, used to drag herself on her tummy commando style. She is 3.5 years old, talks non stop, is super bossy and runs like the wind.

Isn't it supposed to be 10 weeks? Mine smiled on cue at 10 weeks as we were walking down the stairs...any earlier and it's wind!

My 8 week old DS hasn't smiled yet either and he has his 8 week check tomorrow. I must admit I am worried too as everyone I speak to with baby similar age they are all smiling. He doesn't coo much either but has had reflux so basically been a grump for the past 8 weeks. Xx

@Piscesmommy1113 is he smiling yet for you and have you had your 8 week check yet xx

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 17/01/2022 07:20

My oldest didn't smile at all until 9 weeks and didn't really manage smiling at people until about 12 weeks - before that, it was mainly at walls or patches of reflected light. He's at school now and is absolutely fine. I promise you, if lack of smiling is all you're worrying about, you really don't need to. You'll get those gorgeous smiles when they are ready to show you

RockAndRollerskate · 17/01/2022 08:07

I get my little one to smile by walking my fingers up his torso and stroking his cheek - accompanied by a silly baby voice. Have you tried using touch or sounds to get her to smile?

Flo1988 · 17/01/2022 08:18

Thanks so much for your replies ladies,
Iv basically tried everything possible but maybe he just needs a few more weeks xxx

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 17/01/2022 08:27

Bollocks

Hohofortherobbers · 17/01/2022 08:31

Mine smiled very first thing in the morning after a good stretch of sleep. How's sleep going?

Youngstreet · 17/01/2022 08:35

My first was a proper smiler.
Dd just didn't smile. I used to practically turn myself inside out trying to get a smile from her.
Eventually at about 12 weeks she started smiling.

Piscesmommy1113 · 17/01/2022 14:23

Yup she had her 8 week appt last week on Thursday. Dr. Isn't worried about it yet. She was also born at 37 weeks so she probably is gonna need a little more time. Can't wait to get that smile though!!!

6 weeks is usual
annaj83 · 17/01/2022 14:37

Try turning it off and turning it back on again

Covidclaire · 17/01/2022 14:43

Definitely too early to be concerned. My DC2 was the same, in fact all early milestones came on the later range of “normal”. It came as a complete surprise as DC1 did everything early.

They really are all different!

FlibbertyGibbitt · 17/01/2022 16:41

My first ( normal pregnancy) smiled around 5 weeks , second was very prem , born at 28 weeks smiled around 4.5 months so if your baby was early , might be that 😊

Piscesmommy1113 · 18/01/2022 13:17

@Piscesmommy1113 awesome 😃

blyn72 · 20/01/2022 04:17

Friends of mine had a very serious baby. He was gorgeous and perfectly normal.

At eight weeks I wouldn't worry.
