My wife is pregnant with our first child, and she's due in mid-February.
For those of you mumsnetters who've been there, what would you want for Christmas in her shoes?
This dh would appreciate any advice.

Yep I second Ozy, if you are buying clothing, check the washing instructions - handwash only items are a big no-no, want easy care and non-iron stuff.
Jewellery is nice, I would definitely avoid rings. I'm 38+4, and had to stop wearing my wedding rings at about 32 weeks because my fingers are so swollen.
Ring would be a nice present after baby's arrival.

A gorgeous piece of jewellery - earrings or a necklace perhaps?

A lovely nightie and dressing gown set?

A spa day

A romantic night out - just the two of you (others have suggested the opera - this is good if it is her sort of thing)

Completely agree that she will want NOTHING baby related (well, she may think she does, but she doesn't)

If you are getting her something practical, you also need to get her something romantic - so for every food processor you buy, you have to buy a piece of diamond jewellery to balance it out.

What about a couple of dvds too so that when she's up late with baby she can watch them again but again she can laze around on boxing day watching them.

Some lovely moisturiser : FCUK pure is lovely

An MP3 player/IPOD with your special songs on

necklace

tiffany keyring

some lovely chunky bracelets or a charm bracelet that you can add to.

Nintendo DS for something to keep her occupied whilst on maternity leave

A voucher for lunch/dinner/afternoon tea at a local restaurant/hotel/posh cafe

A photoshoot of her - or the two of you

Upload some lovely photos of your wife to snapfish.co.uk and see what lovely gift you could give her - a poster of herself, canvas print of the two of you etc.

I went with the spa day for pampering, the seraphine nightie, and some DVDs of US television shows (she's American and misses it.)

Thanks so much for all your suggestions, I'll update you after Xmas on how they were received.

P.S. Re jewelery, that's more of a birthday/anniversary/Valentine's day thing for me. But I'll save up the 'sparkly' suggestions for those occasions.

may i suggest you also get thinking about a pressie for her once baby is born, something to say how proud you are and how much you appreciate her going through all that, maybe a necklace with a pink stone for a girl or a blue one for a boy, or maybe something engraved to mark the occassion.

i would've loved a present like that after i had DS

The results:
Success! Thanks again to all suggestions. The DVDs and seraphine nightie were hits, and the spa pampering was a huuuge hit.

P.S. Thanks for the suggestion soopermum - that sounds like a great idea.
