Blocking ex

My ex has nothing to do with our children, he hasn’t seen them since January and before that he went over a year without seeing them, he’s never really bothered since we split up 5 years ago and has only seen them a handful of times, each time he gets bored and then just disappears only to resurface again a year later. Anyway he has my number and I’ve left it open because he has previously turned up at my house in the middle of the night, I want to block him as he texts every now and again (think every month or two) and it’s making me feel really anxious but I’m more worried about blocking him incase he shows up! I guess in my head I think if I kept it open he would warn me incase he plans to, I know some will say just call the police if he shows up but I suffer from anxiety so the thought of him just randomly showing up really scares me, I must say when he contacts me he isn’t asking to see them, he text me today saying it’s my birthday soon so happy birthday (it’s already gone 🙄) my mum says to just block him but I just don’t know what to do for the best?

Block him but inform him of an e mail address where he can communicate with you about the children ( when he feels like it ).

I agree with DameMaureen - communication via e mail only
He wants to wish you a happy birthday but has no interest in his children? That is unforgiveable.
It is not healthy for you or your children that he comes and goes as he pleases - be firm and say you need to get on with your life with your children
