Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

@Walkingthedog46, are you able to say who the rude author was, or at least give us a hint? Grin

acornfed · 10/10/2021 16:56

@ElizaDarcysDeeds

I can't help thinking how embarrassing it must be for OP's DC who is friends with the famous person's child. They have built a friendship with no preconceptions but OP is so invested in becoming 'friendly' with the famous parent that she's started a thread on MN about it. Blush
@ElizaDarcysDeeds . I genuinely would want , and aim To be , "friendly" with anyone whose child is good friends with mine . Famous or not. For me it's important x

@Catcuriosity

David Walliams was an absolute grim creep towards a younger relative She was late teens/early 20s at the time and he propositioned her, wouldn’t leave her alone It was before all the stuff came out on Twitter about him picking up very young women and making them sign NDAs, but it must be completely true based on how he was to my relative

I shudder every time I see one of his books on a kids bookshelf

I don’t know why but Walliams has ALWAYS given me awful vibes. I very rarely feel this sort of gut response to people but this reading this doesn’t surprise me. It is literally just a very strong aversion I can’t explain. He makes my skin crawl!

I saw someone say Andy from CBeebies wasn’t nice but we met him at breakfast on a hotel when my eldest was OBSESSED with Andys Dinosaur Adventures and he was super lovely, incredibly attractive and very, very tall! 😂

It's not Kirstie Allsop! I've not had any dealings with her and this person is from
A very very wealthy family and are established jet set

This.

No more, no less.

Hugh Grant - obnoxious .

Gonnagetgoing · 10/10/2021 17:04

@SALTyartist, my SIL’s cousin who's an actress met David Walliams years ago at The Ivy. She would’ve been late teens/early 20s if that. She went on a few dates with him and he invited her to his house in LA where she flew out to. Not sure how she found out but she found out she wasn’t the only woman in his life and left and flew back to London. SIL naturally despises him due to this.

We used to live in a village where Billy Connolly had a house. Walking the kids to school he passed us on his motorbike/trike. Gave us a big grin & a wave. Used to see him pop into the local shop. He was treated like everyone else & seemed a geniunely nice normal bloke.

Year after year the same names always crop up as consistently nice or really not nice.

Everyone can have an off day, or off month. But some people are clearly rude. I'd like to think there's an MN-etter putting together a spreadsheet.

Gonnagetgoing · 10/10/2021 17:08

No idea if he’s nice or not but a friend who used to be a teacher in Dulwich said James Nesbitt was very well known for trying yo pick up and have affairs with parents at same school.

shallIswim · 10/10/2021 17:09

Confirmations on here that my instinct about Wallims is correct! Gives me the proper creeps. Not that he cares!

He can’t write books either, his books for kids are rubbish!

@Oldnews

Amanda holden - has tried to get free or discounted services from companies I've been connected to more than once and has been rude and abrupt when they've not been given. I've also heard rumours from some of her home employees that she's pretty unpleasant at home and to work with.
Not surprised at this at all .. can not stand the women
shallIswim · 10/10/2021 17:13

Met Bill Nighy in a hotel and he charmingly agreed to photos with my DD (granted she was a gorgeous 21 year old but still). Ditto Luke. Evans who was standing behind us in the queue for afternoon tea at the Pump Room in Bath. He was with his parents and possibly his partner but could see me and DD nudging each other and saying 'it IS him isn't it?' So charmingly said yes it was. Proper nice gent.

Stovetopespresso · 10/10/2021 17:13

@Candleinthebreeze yeah your post about MR doesn't ring true? what are you hoping to achieve?

shallIswim · 10/10/2021 17:14

@Gonnagetgoing I've boycotted them. Again, I doubt very much he cares!

LuluJakey1 · 10/10/2021 17:14

@Marineboy67

Simon Lebon told us to fuck off when we asked for his autograph on the Kings Road....twat
But why would you want anyone's autograph? It is pathetic and pointless to ask for that.
PattiPritell · 10/10/2021 17:15

Can't help wondering if you've had years of racist shit from the public it's a bit rich to expect them to put themselves out for a photo or whatever - probably we reap what we sew.

Laney39 · 10/10/2021 17:16

Stephen Graham, prick. Absolutely loved himself
Vic Reeves, really nice and friendly

MissMarpleRocks · 10/10/2021 17:18

I can confirm the Beckhams are lovely. They shopped in the same M&S as me & would stand patiently for ever for photos & autographs.

JumperandJacket · 10/10/2021 17:19

Genuinely as nice as you think- Michael Palin. I met him at a party and he was absolutely lovely and very sweetly and modestly introduced himself to people by saying, “hello, I’m Michael” as if everyone didn’t already know.

JumperandJacket · 10/10/2021 17:21

Also lovely- Peter Capaldi who lives near me and whom I see around all the time. Famous locally for the fact that, any time a child gets excited to see him (the Doctor) he gives them a salute or a mysterious look, in character, which is unbelievably kind given how often it must happen.

Gumbomambo · 10/10/2021 17:23

Small rotund astrologer of red top frame and slots on breakfast tv a good while ago, made a very young waitress cry her heart out in a very smart restaurant my partner worked in. A real “don’t you know who I am” type. She was very nervous and spilled a little of the sauce on the table cloth, no where near him, he called a fucking incompetent little bitch and made a great show of laughing at her and making nasty comments. my partner was a senior member of staff and revenge was taken, nothing nasty with the food or anything but he went up to him and said “I hear you read palms, read this”. With fuck of you twat written on his palm. He got suspended for it, as the famous celebrity chef whose restaurant it was had no choice but they all laughed about it. The owner paid him fully and said he was glad he was sticking up for the staff but should have refused the celeb service rather than be so childish. He also said Brad Pitt was brilliant asked to come back to the kitchen and watch the chefs and be shown how to dress his plate.

Pip Torrens (actor from The Crown, Poldark, Preacher) once struck up a conversation with DH and I in a pub. Lovely fella, such an "actorly" voice.
