Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

My husband saw Sarah Beeny at a stately home. She was trying to blag her way in to something but he said in a kind of joking way - trying it on but not minding if unsuccessful.
Lynda la Plante's son went to my kids school for a few years. She was always friendly to me and we chatted about her latest show and the actors etc. Was disappointed when she gave an interview after leaving saying the mums at the school gates ignored her - I think they may not have recognised her and if they did tried to respect her space and maybe went too far the other way. She gave fabulous parties for her son and invited everyone and was extremely generous.
My friend worked in Hollywood and reports that Ray Liotta was rude, Whoopi Goldberg lovely and Mel Gibson was nice. Bryan Singer was awful and sweary.

liverpoolgal82 · 10/10/2021 15:13

Youvegottenminuteslynn- Venessa Feltz made a friend of mine cry years ago , she was doing her hair for tv and was so so rude to her.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/10/2021 15:15

I think it was more likely to be that he was of his generation and had very good manners.

Could be..............perhaps............

Isn't the phrase 'Star Suckers', though?

paperpusher · 10/10/2021 15:17

Matt Lucas. A friend of mine works at a theatre and said he is the rudest and biggest diva ever. He made lots of demands and when the theatre were not able to act on one of them from a security point of view, he packed his suitcase and walked out of the show!

Amanda Holden - same friend said that she is incredibly rude and her and another actress (can't remember the name) came to blows over who had the biggest dressing room!

Aliveandkicking23 · 10/10/2021 15:18

DH met Chris Coleman football manager in a local restaurant. (Wales Manager)
CC had stopped for a meal after a game. Very chatty and friendly.
He asked DH for his name. They spent 30 minutes talking about football.
When we asked for our bill it had been paid.
3 months later we were in Cardiff in a hotel (we live in the NW) who was also
staying there was CC. He remembered DH and his name.

Bluskyenonstop · 10/10/2021 15:19

I was working in a well know clothing chain shop in Covent Garden and We all noticed Susanne Shaw from Hear Say queuing up at the tills.
She started shouting to open another till, do you know who I am?
This was many years ago, she had her little boy with her- he was baby at that time.

paperpusher · 10/10/2021 15:19

Patrick Stewart : very full of his own self importance. Refused to let the stewards sit down in the theatre because it was distracting him!

Whatthechicken · 10/10/2021 15:21

@MeredithGreyishblue yep James Martin for me too. I was with some students studying to be chefs, after the demo from Martin (who had been invited in), understandably a few of the 16-18 year olds wanted to have their photo taken with him. When I requested the photos on the students behalf (about two), he looked at me like I’d just puked on his shoes.

Ugh I reckon many people have been subject to her vileness! Your poor friend, just trying to do her job and having someone be so horrible to her. I was quite pleased that during our row I actually laughed out loud at how ridiculous she was being which I think did actually make her a bit embarrassed. She was properly shouting at me essentially for one of my staff taking a scheduled, mandatory, well earned five minute loo break that in reality would have means VF waiting 2ish minutes longer than she wanted for something.

I could tell she was probably a bully at school and bulldozed her way through life not giving a shit about who she upsets.

Her daughter looked absolutely mortified so I made sure I was nice to her afterwards, no hard feelings kind of rub on the arm and a little smile to her as she trailed away behind her mum with her head down. Must be horrible when a parent is regularly aggressive and nasty to people in public.

oneglassandpuzzled · 10/10/2021 15:27

@GreenClock

You rarely hear a bad word about Victoria Beckham. A PR friend of mine met her in the early Spice G days at an event, and said she was really warm and amusing.

I think that Gove is popular (on a personal level) in Westminster.

He was kind and patient with my daughter, then 15, when she wanted a selfie.
Livpool · 10/10/2021 15:28

Worst I let was some guy from Hollyoaks (someone Pickard I think). I didn't and don't watch Hollyoaks and was was 19 working in John Lewis. He asked if my parents knew I spent Sunday morning on bed with him every week. I had no clue who he was and was a bit 😱🥱.

He asked if I knew who he was - and I looked at his credit card and said the name. Complete wanker - and quite a perv

YukoandHiro · 10/10/2021 15:30

Krishnan Guru-Murthy was incredibly rude in person. I was very disappointed

Candleinthebreeze · 10/10/2021 15:32

I’m the one who first made the negative comments about Marcus Rashford.

Those of you that have questioned my view, have you ever met him in person, away from a camera? I have, many times and will do many times again.

Clearly I can’t reveal who I am or how I know him but I mix regularly with most Man Utd players in an informal setting. Many are good friends of mine.

Among his peers he’s popular, among the media he’s popular, you try and approach him in the street away from a camera though and you’ll see a very different person.

His mum is well aware of this and they have had many arguments about his conduct/behaviour toward the public.

It’s no secret in his circle that his behaviours leaves much to be desired. I really do know his circumstances much more than most ever will, and as a die hard Man Utd fan I take no pleasure in criticising him, but I must be honest it infuriates me to see his holier than thou status which is thoroughly undeserved.

YukoandHiro · 10/10/2021 15:33

@oneglassandpuzzled Wait, your 15 year old wanted a selfie with... (checks notes)... Michael Gove???

New job on Reception - man comes in (who turned out to be a famous author, but I didn’t know who he was at the time). He just said ‘I’m expected’. When I said ‘what name is it please?’ He replied ‘don’t get funny with me, dear’. The person he had come to see appeared at that moment and took him off, so I had to ask a colleague who the hell that was.
Omg! What a wanker!
Livpool · 10/10/2021 15:34

Oh and I used to work at Anfield and my job meant I met a lot of footballers/managers. I also met the England squad.

Worst - Ashley Cole (ignored little kids when coming off the coach). Pointed to his earphones - which I could see were not connected
Harry Kewell - such a moaner
Steven Gerrard - pains me to say this but he was a complete arse and refused to speak to anyone he deemed beneath him
Gary Neville - kept me waiting 2 hours - well would have been longer but I told my manager I was going home

Best - Jose Mourhino - absolutely lovely, chatted with all staff and fans
David Beckham- was so chatty and smelt amazing
Steve McClaren - stood chatting to me for about half an hour

decadance · 10/10/2021 15:34

Years ago served Neil Sedaka in a resturant, told not to make eye contact with him, no tip, didn't even say thank you just nothing, then we had the group The Small faces come in, Steve Marriott was lovely to everyone and gave us all a huge tip, and invited us all to a party at their hotel.
Then babysat for Felicity Kendall, her son was very naughty but she was so nice, gave me a £10 tip which was badly needed at the time, then the worst ever to babysit for was Lesley Joseph from Birds of a Feather, she answered the door dressed exactly like her character in a red leather outfit, i tried not to laugh, she came back really drunk at 2am saying she'd forgotten all about going to the cash machine, started going through her bag for pound coins, i was really tired and fed up and just said forget it and walked out, never got paid.

This and the Angela Lansbury one have made me happy Smile
Nishkin · 10/10/2021 15:38

These were not face to face meetings, but in the late 1980’s I was in an amateur dramatic group in Birmingham- some of the members decided to set up a theatre group for young people in the area so approached various people to be patrons. The ones I remember are:

Sir John Gielgud- hand written letter in response saying he would be delighted but didn’t think the young people would know who he was

Glenda Jackson- hand written letter asking for more details before she put her name to it- then when further details were supplied a second hand written letter to say she would be delighted

John Hurt - his agent made a phone call to say John would be delighted

Lenny Henry - no response whatsoever

I've quite a few decent am-dram types who have done Panto's with Lesley Joseph and 100% say the same as you.

Jeffrey Archer, by any chance? I once overheard him being rude and verging on racist in the lobby of the BBC. Ugh.

maofteens · 10/10/2021 15:50

Ooo I forgot: a friend went to see Patrick Stewart on Broadway and after the show they hung out by the stage door and it was raining and he had a nice chat with her and her friend and then offered them a lift to their hotel. She said he was charm personified.

FitAt50 · 10/10/2021 15:53

I was a manager at John Lewis in Kingstone and then Waitrose in Richmond - served a lot of famous people..

Lovely:
Katherine Jenkins - also incredibly beautiful in the flesh.
Stanley Tucci - so so friendly and chatty
Simon Le Bon - really funny guy and very down to earth
Natalie Cassidy - lovely lady and made a joke about her trumpet.
Gwen Stefani - really fun, very chatty and down to earth.
Duches of Cambridge - very nice and smiley. Nice laugh
Kim Kardashian - Lovely woman and chatted to all the staff.

Not so lovely:
Katherine Tate - seemed in a constant bad mood.
Paul O'grady - grumpy and not approachable at all.
Heston Blumental - very demanding and we were all terrorfied of him
@oneglassandpuzzled Wait, your 15 year old wanted a selfie with... (checks notes)... Michael Gove???
I think she wanted to rile her teachers! He was education minister back then.
