Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

@Spanielsarepainless

I have had the Don't you know who I am? routine in my line of work. I had never seen a photo of him, though when he told me his name I knew immediately. He was an arrogant and pretentious idiot. The trouble was he dropped out of my mind and the next time we went through the same rigmarole. Twice.
Who was it? Ironically, I bet he remembered you!
Kylereese · 10/10/2021 07:35

Friend was on holiday in Turkey with her family. Denise Welch was there. This was years ago (maybe 15/20 years ago?) she was still married to Tim Healy and her kids were a lot younger.

Their kids ended up playing together as often happens on these holidays. Tim Healy was lovely interacted with all the kids said hello that kind of thing. Denise was completed stand offish and rude.

I used to work in a hotel in a capital city years ago where there was a festival type of event. Loads of pop star staying there.

Michelle Heaton was a stuck up cow to the staff with a superior attitude. Alesha Dixon couldn’t have been nicer. Absolutely lovely.

Barnowl25 · 10/10/2021 07:40

So pleased to read Ewan McGregor is lovely!

romatheroamer · 10/10/2021 07:45

Re Enid Blyton I had "A Story Party at Green Hedges" as a child. Quite a few local children were invited to her house, they had tea and she told every child their own story. I wonder now if this actually happened. In a documentary a neighbour's child said she was always complaining about the noise they were making stopping her working.

@PieonaBarm

Peter Kay, rude, arrogant, obnoxious but Johnny Vegas is absolutely lovely! Served them both when I worked for an electrical retailer.

Michael Buble has a potty mouth but is generous with the Haribo (according to my DH anyway!)

A friend of mine regularly sees Johnny Vegas as they follow the same sports team and often travel on the same fan coach. She says he is unfailingly lovely no matter how the game has gone, how many people have (or haven't) recognised him, and that he will take as many photographs and sign as many autographs as he is asked for, and has a good chat and a laugh with anyone who wants to speak to him.

My closest brush with celebrity has been standing next to Ed Miliband in a lift at work. I vaguely recognised him and so initially mistook him for someone I'd probably seen in the lift before, chatted briefly, and then had my slightly panicked-looking boss ask me what I'd been saying to him (it's a glass lift so everyone can see everything in it). He was very polite, said he liked my hat (it was winter, I'd knitted it myself) and he smelled lovely.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/10/2021 07:46

She sounds like me; except I'm not famous or artistic.

I am naturally shy and my mental health is poor. This means I often don't have the mental energy to be the sort of friendly that most people do naturally. I'm not rude I'm just doing the best I can.

Also, you see a nice friendly approachable Mum group, I see a group that doesn't look like it needs anyone else to join.

I think I saw that documentary. Didn't the neighbour's child say Enid wrote a story about a noisy little girl and everyone knew it was based on her?
CimCardashian · 10/10/2021 07:51

It's true that people have bad days famous or not but the rudest person I've ever worked with was Kanye West.

It was over a few days so not just a one bad day! Obnoxious,disrespectful and our union had to fight for us to get paid afterwards which took weeks.

Paul McCartney was delightful (unlike Stella it seems on here 🤣)

diddl · 10/10/2021 07:51

Anyone else reading this with the initials & hints & wondering who the fuck is anyone talking about?

Just say it!!!

As for people wondering if Op is talking about Stella McC, my initial thought was it can't be because no way can she have kids still of school age!

@simitra.

Its not that we hate you, just that you dont merit space in or add value to our particular social world

My friends ex wouldn’t go to an event with her and said the same as you.
He was a knob too.

TidyDancer · 10/10/2021 08:05

I'm so pleased to read about Johnny Vegas. I adore him.

Marcus Rashford is a big surprise and hugely disappointing. He does a lot of good work which obviously is the most important thing but it's sad to see he's cultivated a public image which is so different to what's underneath.

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/10/2021 08:07

@Orphlids

I met a few high profile people through my former job.

Ewan McGregor was just wonderful, it was a pleasure to meet him. He made the effort to do little things which enhanced the day of those working with him. Similarly, Su Pollard - she was fab. Funny, warm, exciting, charismatic and generous. She later took the time to send a nice note about me to my employers. Alan Rickman was rather serious, and extremely polite. Christian Slater was fun, rather flirty, very down to earth. Damon Albarn was so rude to my lovely young colleague, he left her in tears.

My DH knows Su Pollard through working with her a few times, they meet up every now and again. She is exactly how she comes across in interviews - quirky, lovely and much more talented than people realise.

I’ve ‘worked’ with him at a local voluntary event twice, he was very nice both times, hardworking and polite to everyone. He has since visited twice and helped out when he has been in the area, he did an impromptu sports session for the children on one of his visits and he video called his mum so she could say hello to everyone.
winterescape · 10/10/2021 08:09

I know Ewan McGregor and he is indeed lovely.

Bob Geldof is extremely rude. I sat next to him on a plane.

Tabbycat12345 · 10/10/2021 08:15

I’ve met Juliette Lewis on a couple of occasions and she is just the loveliest person

PatButchersEarring23 · 10/10/2021 08:17

I've heard James Corden is very rude and up himself. Doesn't surprise me at all.

shrugshrug · 10/10/2021 08:18

Dana ran for the Presidency of Ireland.in 1997.
Mary Mc Aleese went on to win it.
Dans was also an MEP ( member of the European Parliamentary) 1999 - 2004.

If people would just skim through the OP's posts (easily done, click on the little link in the bottom of the OP) they would see it's not Stella McC.

I want to know about the rising star in the government who can't grasp basic science, but there are so many to choose from.

Op hasn't denied my suggestion of Kirsty Allsopp 🧐

Noooooo, he's one of the people on my "would love to meet" list! Sad

I've only met lovely ones:

Boy George, many years ago, he stood and chatted for ages. Smelled absolutely gorgeous.

Evan Davies (Dragon's Den presenter), very sweet and smiley.

John Prescott. Despite my preconceptions, he was lovely. I'd just got off a train at King's X station with my niece when she was about 7, and he offered to help me with our luggage.

Trevor Eve (showing my age here!). Looked very stern, and taller and slimmer than I'd thought, but was actually really nice and chatty.

I know it’s not her, but Stella McCartney is only 50. Her youngest child is ten.
Teddicus · 10/10/2021 08:31

I once had the honour of being called a ‘little shit’ by Michel Winner. To be fair, he wasn’t known for being nice but still it was a bit of a shock given I was just doing my job. Oh, and he literally asked ‘Do you know who I am?’

AllMonthLong · 10/10/2021 08:33

Met lots of celebs in a previous career. I was a minion on a production tram, so was always interesting to see how celebs interact with ‘the little people’.

Lovely - Beyoncé, Jay Z, Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys, Idris Elba - smiley, friendly, gracious, very ‘normal’ in their interactions. Jay Z was particularly lovely, warm and charming.

Ghastly - Madonna (asked for nobody in the building to speak to her or make eye contact with her, and had a hissy fit when a security guard said a few words to her), Kanye West (sleazy, kept blatantly looking at my body) and the absolute worst was Cheryl Cole. Such a rude, cold, arrogant person. Put everyone on edge with her snarky, hostile attitude. Maybe she was having a bad day…
