Inappropriate language embarrased me

We have just had a visit from a doctor (planned home apointment) and when he came in he rubbed his hands together and said "it's freezing out there!"...so DP said to him "here, come in here and park your arse down there" pointing at the sofa. I glared at him but he didn't twig on, the doctor looked a little taken back but sat down.

A few minutes later we were discussing DS and he said "when he has a shit..." etc and the doctor almost tutted at him at one point.

He carried on with the same kind of language and when the doctor left DP was laughing like mad saying "did you see his face?" etc but I'm worried he's going to think we're horrible parents.

You just don't swear like that in front of doctors do you? DP talks like this all the time but in front of a doctor? or am I being stupid?

he sounds like a yob.

TheStepfordChav · 07/12/2007 13:45

YANBU. Your DP is showing lack of respect. I'd have felt uncomfortable. It's probably not the end of the world, they need more than that to refer you to SS!

mynameis · 07/12/2007 13:45

Oh I would have been a bit taken aback too but I wouldn't have been offended.

I'm sure your Doctor has heard it all before.

NomDePlume · 07/12/2007 13:45

I agree wite tiredemma, he sounds charming....

chocolatespiders · 07/12/2007 13:46

very inappropiate, but i am sure doctor has heard worse, but still i feel for you i would have been cringing

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 07/12/2007 13:46

He needs to grow up. It is not appropriate to talk to anyone like that really. I know a lot of us do amongst close friends and family but that is a bit different.

He might think it's funny but all he has done is let himself, and you, down.

kittylouise · 07/12/2007 13:47

Embarrasing for you, and also disrespectful to the dr. I swear like a trooper, so am no prude, but in some places it is very inappropriate.

Can't believe your dp laughed about it. Is he 14?

mumblechum · 07/12/2007 13:47

Sorry, but > on your behalf

Snaf · 07/12/2007 13:47

I'm more taken aback that you have a doctor that still does house calls!

CherryCupcake · 07/12/2007 13:48

he wasn't a normal GP, I would give a few more details but its quite personal

wheresthehamster · 07/12/2007 13:48

Sorry, but your dp sounds pathetic

Dropdeadfred · 07/12/2007 13:48

yuk..what is your dp's problem?

Iklboo · 07/12/2007 13:49

Very inappropriate and it sounds like DP was doing it deliberately to wind you up.
Suggest next time you visit his mum you asl how her C**t flaps are doing and see how he likes it

tissy · 07/12/2007 13:51

Neither dh nor I would talk in front of anyone like that.

Hulababy · 07/12/2007 13:53

Definitely inappropriate and not suprised you are cross with him. Not nice to talk like that to anyone really, and especially not to people in a professional capacity, such as a GP. You DP sounds very immature from this.

TotalChaos · 07/12/2007 14:00

It's the laughing bit that makes me .

donnie · 07/12/2007 14:03

yes, very embarrassing - is he like that with everyone? why? does he know how to speak in a mature and inoffensive manner?

warthog · 07/12/2007 17:14

cherry, you've started a few threads about your dh. he sounds like a nightmare: he's violent to other people, threatened violence to you and he clearly doesn't give a damn how he comes across.

i would have a very serious think about your marriage and whether you want your kids to grow up thinking that the way he behaves is normal.

sorry to be so blunt

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 07/12/2007 17:50

Oh god, that would have made my toes curl. Can you imagine what the doctor thought of him - and by association, thought of you??

I hope this man has some very very good points to compensate for this sort of stuff!

smartiejake · 07/12/2007 18:54

I would wash his mouth out with soap and send him to bed early.
WHat an immature little twat!

harrisey · 08/12/2007 02:55

Believe me, doctors hear a lot worse every day (I'm married to one - I've never heard him comment on anything like this -- there are much weirder things happening every day)

I personally dont think doctors need more respect than any other professional, from a SW to a plumber.

But I would hate it if my dh talked like that to anyone, its disrespectful to the person, not the profession, IYSWIM.
